Oh Darn

I talked to a shop here that does good work, they quoted me about $550 (depending on exchange rate). My question is...is that a good price?
I am moving back to the US in about six months, and I could wait to get it done once I return.
thanks,

As usual, there are many ways to solve issues, and the Pano technique is just one way. I did my own calipers with the G2 paint 5 years ago, and they still look great.
However, at $500+ to do them, I am clearly in the wrong business. What is with the stupidly high prices people are quoting these days?
Cheers,
Mike

My calipers had 100k on them so I thought a rebuild might be in order. I purchased a complete set of piston and seal rebuild kits from a rennlist member for $300. The reality when I disassembled them was that all of the pistons and seals were still in excellent shape. You can buy just the seals for much cheaper then the complete rebuild kits.
I then cleaned all of the spring plates and had them zinc plated. I found someone local to me who did an entire box of nuts and bolts from my suspension and the spring plates and bleeder valves for $40.
I took the calipers to a local powder coater to have them bead blasted to bare, with the intention of then deciding if I was going to powder coat or spray paint. I asked him how much it would be to bead blast the calipers he said $100, then I asked how much to powder coat, he said $150 to bead blast and powder coat. I asked him why it was only $50 to powder coat and he said there was a minimum charge for the bead blasting - so I also got him to bead blast the control arms and the dust shields.
From what I understand not all powder coaters require you to completely disassemble your calipers, but mine did - it wasn't hard.
A search on rennlist for powder coating calipers will show you a lot of threads for and against both types of refinishing. This was my story and here are my results:

Actually, those are vinyl decals. Which is the other choice that you have to make - vinyl decals or stencils that you spray paint the logo on with. I chose the decal route as it seemed to be the easiest and if they got screwed up it would just be a matter of peeling them off and putting new ones on.
As to where I got them, they are available on Ebay, but it seemed that the ones on there were a little too big. At the same time that I was looking, Andreas posted a thread about his caliper rebuild and he mentioned that he had some decals made up that were the correct size. I asked him if he had any extra and he graciously offer to send me some. In exchange for his kindness I sent him a couple of parts from my suspension over haul to use in his artwork.
I use the G2 and Duplicolor brush on paints and like the results. Porsche decals and then a couple of coats of high tremp clear.
