Default Valve Cover Screw Size?

I am starting to gather parts for an engine drop and would like to upgrade my valve cover screws. Does anyone have the full size description for these screws? I did the search along with a google search of the OEM part number with no results.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

M6 x 30 (1.0 pitch - standard pitch) socket head cap screw.

There are 38 of them; 11 on each lower valve cover and 8 on each upper valve cover.

Pics here.

I bought a complete set from Autohaus AZ for my lowers. They had them in stock and ready to ship. They were all individually wrapped, with the washer, in little baggies and it took almost as long to get them unpacked as it did to install them!

ARP might be a little bit of overkill for a valve cover application. Connecting rods and head studs? Yes. Valve covers? I think some OEM stuff is just fine...maybe even perfect.

With the metal being so soft on the OEM fasteners and people having trouble removing them without stripping the allen heads has anyone investigated replacing them all with better normal hex heads that you can use a socket to remove. I may be doing a wire change in the not too distant future and would also like to take care of my light seepage on my valve covers while im in there.

I've found it hard not to strip at least one when removing.. I dis-agree with
them being perfect or they would still be used.. I may change mine when
I do lower covers to male hex like those used on present cup motors...
I've never stripped one! I kinda hate allen bolts! and DON'T use the black
oxide they will rust in no time!

They are a grade 8.8 fastener just like any others in that grade....so softer, no harder.

I'd bet the problems experienced are:
  • hex key not fully inserted into fastener due to rust.
  • hex key not fully inserted due to not being able to get at it head on.
  • an incorrect sized hex key being used...maybe a 3/16" instead of 5 mm.
  • a cheap hex bit being used.

also might want to be careful with alternate screw types due to metal differences with cam tower.

I put a thin coat of anti-seize compound on the threads.

Nice Andreas, but my 993 came from the factory with them...option 999.

Seriously, $363.66 vs $18.24.
