Steve W. (or anyone else that sees a lot of 964/993 innards) care to comment?

Can you elaborate? There was a recent Excellence tech reply that explained the difference between dino/semi/full synthetic variants and I remembder Motul was singled out as one of the better ones by virtue of base stock used (expensive, but excellent). I do not remember anything about less longevity though.

The 300V is pretty much toast after 5000 miles/6 months in a daily driver, mostly highway miles. Verified with used oil analysis, less than TBN of 2. I'd venture to say if you had short drives, the TBN reserve would be used up much quicker.
The Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w40 (Porsche approved) holds it's TBN reserve much better. In fact, it holds it's TBN better than Mobil 1, which shocked the hell out of me when I ran it in our track car.

Motul 300V should not be used as a extended oil. It is a race oil with little detergent. 3000to 3500 mile oil changes are in order.
Forget about your cat damage. The zinc levels that have been used prior when these cars were new didn't knock out the cats. The crappy low octane fuel does more damage to the cat than the zinc deposits.
For most daily drivers I would strongly recommend the VTwin.

And I am STILL waiting for Porsche to address the open issues that swirl around not only the web boards, but Excellence and Panorama....
Until then, I think both the "new" options (Porsche approved list) and the "old" options (old mixtures that Excellence, Pano, and many Rennlisters currently support) are a gamble as both leave me with uncertainty...
My $.02,
