Yeah, I found it on the search, thanks... I didn't know Beck jumped on that project. And no kidding, talk about 'very high end' kit car!! Looks like nice craftsmanship... I always liked the Beck spyders... he's a nice guy too!

IIRC, the "GTS" was the street version. Essentially the same car as the racer except for a very short list of creature comforts.

Yes, most utilized the 4-cam Carrera engine I think.

Wasn't Beck at the Historics in '09? I looked one over closely that was parked just on the outskirts of the vendor row. Really, really small and narrow. Again, in context of the street production 914 (4s and 6s); and especially when compared to the 910 that came just three years later.

I'll bet five bucks it's a beck. I couldnt tell a repro from the real one but I'd be surprised if an owner of a real one would have Fuchs on it.

I too wondered if it isn't a Beck or perhaps a Thunder Ranch. The interior door handles didn't look right. However, many years ago, before he passed, I got to take a ride in Hernry Payne's 904 and his had not only a six cylinder but Fuchs too.

Does anyone know the story on the one in the video?

Cheers.

Door handle matches the one on this one (serial # 002) with a nice leather dashboard, and it has Fuchs as well:

More pics:

(As well, the Fuchs may also just be an easy way to put trackable rubber on the car for Walter Roehrl to work his magic...)

Check PCA Panorama Dec 2010 for an article on 904 Carrera GTS prototype, which has the fancy dash IIRC.

And, again, why would the Porsche Museum put its name on the right side of a 904 reproduction??? (See 2:55 in the video, which is posted on the Porsche Channel, not the Beck Reproduction channel...)

Dave, I'lll PM my address for delivery of that $5...

I love the grin on his face around the beginning after a drift....a bit of a smile showed that he was enjoying himself! ( 1:29) .

The beck is one of my fantasy DIY projects....maybe some day!

cheers,

Mike

Why are the instrument clusters quite different?

The one in the video at 1:00 is a molded plastic/no stitching, the mounting face for the instruments is different and so is the right gauge. Quite different from photo 13 in your link.

I don't think anyone would take a million dollar original and upgrade anything to devalue it.

Information for those wondering, whether this is an authentic car or a replica:
over at the German forum pff, one of the moderators commented on this. He says that it is an original and indeed the first 904 built. He says it was built for Oliver Porsche and customized for him a bit.
He once had the opportunity to inspect the car up close, some photos are here.

Watching the master working the understeer on that car.

I would've loved some more shots of his pedal work.

Great video! I wonder if he gets about $50K in Porsche Design apparel as part of his compensation each year? The shoes could've been Porsche Design items.
