993 as a daily driver?
Just wondering how many of the 993's here are used as daily drivers? I have a 38k cab I am looking at but will need to use it for an 8 minute daily commute along back city roads. Some stop (well sort of...) and go, No grid lock etc... Any thoughts or considerations?

As a daily driver with my weather conditions? My Honda CR-V would blow it away off the line.
I have a car I don't care about as much, as a daily driver. You know, the type where it doesn't matter where you park in a parking lot.

8 minutes is not enough time for the oil to warm up. I sometimes drive mine to work but have 20 minutes or more. A short commute like yours might work better with another car. just my 2c

I agree. In a wet cool climate that 8 minutes is not even close. I'm sure someone will chime in about the negatives associated with constant short trips. I would avoid it unless you do not have a choice.

Get up 20 minutes early and drive it the "long" way to work. I used my 97 as a daily driver for more then three years - put about 38k miles on it during that time - through some snow, rain etc. It really helped me relax on the drive home and wake up on the way to work.

My 993 C4S has been my daily driver for 6 years. I can easily be spotted; not by my car though, but by the silly grin on my face all the time.
The car is up to the task. Just make sure you get the oil warm.

I have used mine as a daily driver for almost five years - and I plan to use it as a daily driver for at least another five years. For me, life is too short to not enjoy it every day.
But I live in Northern California (no snow), have a 15 minute commute (almost all freeway) that gives the car enough time to warm up, and have a reserved, covered parking spot at work with only one car next to me (to my left).
If any of the three things I mentioned above weren't true, I might have a different DD.

i use my Porsches also as a DD. Harry L has right: drive your Porsche until you can do it!
Unfortunetly the winter time is snowí in Budapest, so i have 2 cars: 964 C4 for the november-march period and a 993 c2 cabrio for teh april-october period :-)
I use them over 3 years and no issue

I beleive in driving the car.
My '95 has 77k miles; bought it new and it is my winter daily driver...motorcycle in summer.
My daily trip to work is less than 4 miles.
Car sits in the cold during the day, though I often run short errands.
Oil guage often barely comes off the peg on some drives.
Most on here would consider this as abusive use, but every drive is still a joy to me.
So far (knock wood) only problems have been steering rack, immobilizer, HVAC controls, and either a CV joint or LS clutch pack (soon to be repaired).
Taking it to my indy this summer for shocks, CV/LS, HVAC and anything else he might find.

My 95 C4 has been my DD since I got it. I did have a 80mi a day commute, so it got up to temp. Now I do consulting work, & can drive from 5mi to 100 depending on what is needed.
My only complaint is when new clients see it, think I'm loaded & going to soak them of all their cash. Of course you can't put a lot in it, or more then one other person.
