Default Drive block system on a 1995 c4

I have been looking for a C4 and came across one I liked but it has the drive block system. I was just wondering if all 1995 C4s came with the immobilizer, drive block system, even if they have the basket brake light. I already checked out two 95 c4s and they both had the basket but they both had the drive block system.

thanks,

Jon

Drive Block was an option in '95 models.

It was a option, most seem not to have it.

FWIW, Porsche NEVER made a 95 C4S, only the C2 & C4 were MY95.

Jon's were lower case "s"s.

only very early 95s came w/o immobilizer. Too meet international security requirements, immobilizer was implemented to just about 95% of all 993s.

Default 1995 993 Drive Block

My late '95 coupe (3866) has the drive block system but it was not an option listed on the window sticker - it appears to have been standard equipment by May 1995.

1995 was a very long model year run - March 1994 thru July 1995. Early 1995 models delivered in the spring of 1994 had the 718 option code - meaning "next year's model", i.e., 1995. So perhaps the early 1995 cars had no drive block and the later cars had it standard.

I had an early 1995 993 (7XX) which was a March 1994 build and it did not have the drive block system.

Frankly, the drive block system sucks. Wish I could disable it.

Well, the car passed the ppi. It has the block system but it has been bypassed with wiring and the chip. I like the car a lot but for some reason that bothers me a little. It is what I wanted which is a good solid daily driver but even though it has been bypassed and I won't have to deal with the immoblizer for some reason I feel a little dissapointed and I am wondering if that is reason enough to pass on the car. It has been two long years since my last porsche so its hard to keep waiting for the right car which fits my budget.

Maybe I am lucky, but IMO the immobilizer issue is way overblown. I guess people have had problems with it but I wouldn't let that be the determining factor in purchasing a great car that you like. I put the key in half way, hit the button on remote and then turn key to start the car, pretty simple system that a lot of people hate.

Jon:

I would see the bypass as a plus.

The immobilizer issue may be overblown, but many owners worry about a failure at an inconvenient time, or in a remote location. And programming new keys is difficult for many people. It took my local Porsche dealer (not my indie, who won't touch programming) about 4 hours to program my new key.

I've considered having the Drive Block on my car flashed out.

Since its impossible to get rid of the immobilizer (believe me, I've tried) word to the wise is to religiously change the batteries of remote once a year, put it in your calendar, it only costs a couple of bucks and ten minutes of work....you'll be glad you did.
