With a quality Shoei helmet on I was knock out and had a good concussion & a crack helmet. I am guessing without the helmet my skinny *** wouldn't be typing this thread.

I'm at the age at which one of my flying students bought his first motorcycle at 53, and between the ages of 60 and 65, he did four around the world tours...solo, not as one of those poseurs who goes on a guided tour.

In another three years, it'll be twenty straight years riding in Europe. I wonder if I'll go another twenty years.

Rode sport bikes for several decades. Never much interested in sports cars as nothing could come close to the accel/mechanical connection that bikes provided. Fast forward to several "close calls" and finally a crash in 2002 that left me w/4 broken ribs, ruptured spleen and collapsed lung (morphine please !) Promised the wife i would'nt make her a widow and picked up a 2004 S2000 (still have). Initially missed the commraderie but then being able to rev this thing to 8.3k, top down w/no gear on, a coffee and tunes soon filled the void. Recently added the 993 several months ago and never looked back.

Had a one off turbo Suzuki GS 1000 all tricked out. Yes I said turbo!!
Nothing will ever come close to the power delivery.
Almost was killed on this missile. Glad to be behind a P-car windshield

The thought of selling my bike, a Yamaha R6, had already started to creep into my mind before I decided to increase the size of our attached garage from two to three cars in the new house we were building. So the need for more money was the last straw, but after a few close calls on the road (dodging igloos and stray farm animals in Canada) and with a 3 year old at home who would have missed her dad way more than her dad would have missed his motorcycle - it was time.

I have a job where I respond to accidents, and I can honestly say I can't count the number of fatal motorcycle accidents I've been to in my career - I guess it would be like a heart surgeon who smokes...

The 993 has definitely filled the void that was left when I sold the motorcycle, as well as the third car parking spot that the motorcycle paid for - and now when dad wants to go for a rip on a sunny summer afternoon the whole family comes along for the ride

Ive owned 4 streetbikes and enjoyed all of them, but like my mother said long ago "you're gonna get killed or arrested". She was right, because I almost got both at one time or another. I totaled a 2005 GSXR 750 and got very lucky with my injuries. After that I bought a 2007 R6 and got tired of getting run off the road by people texting. Im done with street riding, but I would like to have another bike someday to take to the track.

Been riding all my life (I'm 52 now) and just can't let it go as long as I am healthy. I have thought about getting rid of all my bikes (4) and my 993 for a 997 GT3, but then I always come to my senses. Keep riding, be safe AND get a 993

Turning 58 here in a few months and know I'm not as sharp as I used to be but still feel comfortable with the bike. Right now its a Yamaha FJR1300 sport tourer, also have a Moto Guzzi but it's for sale since getting the Yamaha. I know someday I'll have to quit but hoping that's at least another 10 years away. Hit a deer a few years back and that gave me pause to think about my mortality. Took a while to get comfortable again.

Keep the motorcycles; add a 993. What I did.
I'm with you. I have had my 993C4S since 1999 and several bikes for longer than that. Love the bikes and the Porsches.
I was keen to get on the track and do some competition work so I bought another Porsche set up for the track, an old 911 1973 RS recreation that was set up for tarmac rallies) and have been having a blast competing in supersprints, motorkhanas, track days and driver training in the old 911. Keep the bike and the Porsche and enjoy both!

3 bikes and a 993 for me. Luckily, the wife likes both. I have a Dualsport dirt bike for exploring with the boys, a Supermoto for solo fun in the twisties (slower that the sport bikes I used to ride, but just as fun) and a Sport Touring bike for the 2-up trips with the wife. Of course we take the 993 on date night and the kids come along sometimes too. I vote for finding a way to keep both.

I heard those are dangerous.

Srsly, since age 5 I have never not owned a motorcycle. I sell 70 or so per year at my shop. I ride as much as I can, whatever happens to be pointed out the door. The p-cars even me out.

I've never been hurt in 3-plus decades of riding. Trips to the Arctic Circle on a GSX-R1100, all around the US, Mexico, Canada, EU, etc. The secret is to know that every car wants to kill you, that every intersection/parked car/left turning vehicle can be a disaster.

Who knows though. My # may be up 'tamarra

Pix just after I started on that slope:

It is a wicked little bike. Mostly track days, because the 993 is more fun on public roads.

OK topic I think I can comment on. In the 70s I was a semi hard core Harley rider and restorer had a 1929 JD pocket valve big twin and the first year 1936 knucklehead Harley. Went to a motorcycle event at Bridgehampton raceway and started to switch over to italian performance bikes, owned some Ducatis, a 1978 900SS, a couple of Darmahs, a 900 and a 1000 Mille Hailwood replicas, to say nothing about the Nortons, BSA, Triumphs, Moto-Guzzi, etc. When I moved to FL in the late 80s thought about getting a bike but some of the most fun was riding with buddies which I left in NY. Add 3 children all younger then 7 and you can see where this is going. I brought my 1973 Triumph TR-6 with me and my 1983 944. Went to an event at Sebring and the dice rolled again, started to DE the 944 and one thing led to another so today I have a couple of track Porsches and a nice street SC.
All I can say is you will miss the motorcycle even though the Porsche expierence is great, the track time is the only time the rush equals the road time on a nice motorcycle. I still think there is a nice bike in my future as every time I pass one on the road my juices start to flow
