Who Gave Up Motorcycling for Sports Cars?

I've often described to folks that the 993 is the closest to feeling like riding a MC that I've ever experienced in a car. I doubt I'll ever not have a MC unless I just get too freakin' old and disabled to ride.

I owned two "crotch rockets": a 94 ZX-7 and a 97 GSXR 750. Did roughly 20000km between the two over two years. Too many tickets so I stopped (had to make a court appearance, 4 in fact, for the last where a group of us was caught. Slowest, me, was still over 160mph. Stupid.). Looking back I have a theory: my helmet was too tight which squeezed my brain resulting in dumb behaviour.
Now I'm old (41) and feel there's just too many bad drivers out there......I'm afraid.

I was a totally into harleys. But I sold my bike and consolidated my passions for a stealth 993.
HOWEVER, a future endeavor includes a BMW GS1200 Adventure for anther chapter in my life.
What Im trying to say is this, bikes come and go, but my 993 (God willing) I will never sell.

I have a Suzuki Vstrom 650 cc V twin. Great for ambling around town on nice days. This is my fourth bike. The 600 cc Honda sport bike (in line 4 cyl - 18,000 rpm red line) was, by far, the fastest vehicle I've ever owned. It was scary fast.
When I lived back east, I had a BMW sport sedan, an earlier 911 (Cab) and a bike as well. And I rode all 3 regularly (did not ride the bike in New England winters - although occasionally on a sunny day above freezing).
Out here in the Pacific Northwest, the motorcycle is for "perfect" days. My Suzuki is almost 3 years old and has under 1000 miles. But again, I'm only putting about 7000 miles/year on my 993 Cab. I often drive my wife's BMW 3 series on bad weather days.
My kids are all adults now. So I don't worry about them needing me around. But I drive super defensively at all times when on the bike. (same when I ride my pedal bicycle). Most drivers do not know how to deal with a motorcycle. They almost always think the bike is like a pedal bike - that the rider will always "yield" to the car - even when the bike has the right of way (it is identical to a car in that respect - but few car drivers behave that way).
I think I'll always have a motorcycle. Even for just putting around on only nice days.

I've been riding for over 25 years and I have to honestly say that since I purchased my C2S over a year ago this would be the first time I contemplated selling my bike. I've crashed and burned over the years and thankfully survived to ride again. Repeating want Cactus posted, it's the shear exhilaration of the open throttle through some incredible twists that has had me holding on. No H2O is the common thread.
Here are my last two bikes.

People own motorcycles for different reasons.
I did my time burning up the roads on a sport bike and then stopping at the usual tire-kicking hangouts, but that wore thin in a matter of years and it made motorcycling totally boring.
It wasn't till I took a multi day tour (Oshkosh - EAA Fly-In) on a Yamaha XT 350
that I really started to enjoy motorcycling.
That lead to the purchase of a 1990 BMW R100 GS which I still have and more multi day trips. But even those trips got boring due to our roads, so in 1995 it lead to my annual Euro and Alps tours. There are no better roads and there is no better touring bike; I have three GSes now.
I couldn't see myself owning a motorcycle unless it took me to magical places.

Yep, this was a limited edition run on the R1100S as a "boxer cup replika" with his signature in a decal form. This was tribute to the 4 year run series ending 2004. He was BMW matriarch for the series. One of my favorite all time bikes. Not fast, and not the best handling but lots of fun.

You guys aren't helping me a bit.
This thread is more making me want to go ride motorcycles rather than giving them up!
Actually, was considering just giving up the street bike (sport-touring side) and continuing the offroad/Dual Sporting. I have teen boys and having trouble rationalizing influencing them towards the street side. The idea of giving up the street side is a hard one!

My idea of touring is riding solo like in the "Long Way Round" minus all that support vehicle crap.
My 2003 Eastern Canada, Newfoundland and Trans Labrador Highway tour was a motorcycle and equipment test for that upcoming Iceland tour.
On Corsica on the D5 (the D roads can be nice and narrow with no traffic)...

This is the D5...both lanes of it...![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

And of course, the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Roads wide enough for cars...

I'm really sorry to be doing this to all ex-motorcycle owners.
