How do I turn off the light in the trunk?

I've been doing this for years for every winter storage. No harm done. The rubber trunk seal gives where the wire comes out and there is enough of a panel gap between the hood and fender that the wire comes through without a problem. Believe me, if there's any issue, I wouldn't do it.

I just manually push the trunk latch down (as though the lid closed). that turns off the light. Then just pull the unlock lever when you want to genuinely close the hood. Simplest.
and yes the light does go off once the latch is in the locked position.

But the real question is when the trunk is shut, does the light go out? Maybe someone can put a video camera in the trunk and close it to be sure.
Mine is a 97 but it does not "time-out" - ask me how I know. I usually leave the trunk ajar and flip the latch. I just cringe at the thought of trying to close the trunk after forgetting to reset the latch.
The wire comes out just fine with the trunk closed, but I have an aversion to that. Luckily I have to walk in front of the car before getting in it so i see the wire.
I just bought a CTEK charger and will hook it up this weekend.

If you accidentally bump the open front hood button on the way out of the seat the front lid pops just enough for it not to be obvious but it also turns on the front trunk light...
It will drain the battery overnight.
I verified with my cell phone on video closing the trunk all the way; off
Pop the door sill button ;light on inside the trunk.

I use a small 90deg pick to push just the microswitch lever down. No need to release the latch or accidentally close the hood against a closed latch and the switch works correctly again next time you close/open the hood.

^True but still leaves me the possibility of dropping the hood on a closed latch. Just clicking the switch is easier IMO but no big deal either way

Please allow me to post again. My 1995 993 has a plug in the trunk. Merely retract the front carpeting and the coupling becomes visible. Just detach the coupling and the light will go out. No need to mess with latches, switches, picks, etc.

Maybe this is a 993 sin, but I installed a switch to the latch wires. Very easy to turn the light off now.

The nice thing about disconnecting this plug is that the frunk light still operates with the interior lights so you can easily see in the frunk at night by just opening a door.

Did this several years ago. Radio Shack or AutoZone switch, I can't remember which.

For future refference
One of the nice features of our cars is that the cigarette lighter socket is live even when the ignition key is removed and the car is locked. For this reason I adapted a 1.5 Amp charger with a proper lighter plug and can charge a low battery in about 4 hours to the point where it will start the car. Simply plug it in, close the car door over the power wire, lock the car and you are good to go.

sorry to ask really dumb question - but can someone post pictures of where/how to disable any lights staying on when the front trunk is slightly open to allow the battery to charge while sitting in the garage? I usually leave the two lights on the interior head liner by each door in the middle position, so that the light is on when the doors are opened. But when I plug in the battery charger, it leaves the two lights left/right door lights on until the front trunk closes.
1. Are there any lights besides the two obvious door headliner interior lights that turn on when the front trunk is not fully closed (i.e. in the glove compartment or elsewhere i'm not thinking of)?
2. What methods (with pictures) can be used to keep the two lights referred above in the middle position but keep them turned off when the front trunk is open?

Post #32 above. Open trunk, manually push latch down (lights turn off) gently lower trunk with charging cable exiting thro gap. I use towel to protect paint. I've been doing this since day 1 no issues. Just pull trunk handle in car to reset latch when you've removed cable and want to close trunk fully.

Same as above: push latch down: easy, immediate, literally one second, and completed in that time! Pull release from inside of car when you need to close the hood. It just does not get easier, not to mention 100% free. How often does that combination occur?!!! Man, and I thought Ferrari guys were bad!!!

Wow, three pages on a hood light, this may be a record here on overthinking, lol!
