I did this last weekend. Very easy with the tie rods out of the car & using a drill press.

Is the tool with the ball bearing in it still holding up okay? The bearing can be replaced if it has become sloppy.

Marc, thanks for letting us know! No hurry, just post when it goes out to the next guy.

Ok, so our own version of Flat Stanley is winging his way back across the border to his next destination further south.

I'd be interested in trying this mod too. Can I be put on this list if there still is one?

I finished the mod today. There are 3 roll pins left. According to the bag they are 5/16", 1-1/2" spring pins and seem to be available from several sources. McMaster-Carr has them for $15.68 for 25 (18-8 stainless) and they have 420 stainless and zinc-plated steel also. I'm not sure what material the pins in the kit are. Plus, I'm an electrical engineer, not a mechanical engineer so the material requirements are not within my area of expertise. I'd be happy to order some and send them to the next person, or just forward the kit on. It would seem that "daltvater" is next in line. I'll PM him for his address. This was an easy mod and I really appreciate those that got this started and allowed the rest of us to benefit from it.

Latest update to the circ. list

--> daltvater --> Nile13/Christian J --> Sean Spicer --> JPS --> element --> randytrish --> 1978formosa-->Gunter--> vincer77 --> mgianzero

Regards the roll pins, the quoted size is correct, and the pin material initially used was a tempered carbon steel ( ie - spring steel): both inner and outer barrels of the inner tie rod end are of mild, ductile carbon steel [ tie rods are designed to bend under stress vs fail by fracture].
Any of the stainless alloys will work as well, but are not really necessary IMHO - a heavy wall normal spring steel does the job, and is likely less expensive.

The tie rod pinning kit is in the mail and on the way to 'nile13'. 'daltvater' asked to be skipped when I PM'd him. I added another 25 roll pins to the kit as it was down to 3. The drill bits might be getting a little dull also. Thanks for starting this Garth S; Rennlist is a great place.

Somewhat off topic, perhaps you all will appreciate this. Last weekend when I did the mod, my 17 year old daughter wondered why I had the 993 up on jack stands and so I explained what I was doing and showed her the parts in the kit. When I told her that this was started several years ago and was being sent all over North America by some guys on this internet forum about Porsches, she was absolutely fascinated and thought it was the coolest thing she had ever heard. She talked about it for two days.

I talked to Vincer77 last w/e about this, he may be coming over to use my lift and we'll do this on both our cars at the same time.

Will do. Do we have any chance to get lift access?
