Not quite. It was a precursor to the modern cupholder, but it wasn't fo driving, only for parking.
They had a round depression on the inside of the glove compartment door. You could park, open the door, put your drink there and it would not slide. The depression was only about 1/4", so it was useless when driving.

My 968 also has those and I am almost positive my previous 944 did. It would have to be something short to even sit in there parked, though. Never used it.
I like the novelty of having no cupholders, even in my 968 DD. If there is some case where I need to have a drink in there, I will try to make it a bottle. I have driven with a coffee between my legs, but only a handful of times.
I still say that a shoe box with a cut hole is the best solution. It slides in the coreners but never tips over... and if the drink does spill or the box gets ragged... Free replacement next time you buy shoes
Yep, and if one gets creative and paints the shoebox in appropriate color scheme with the right stickers... that would add ungodly level of coolness. I can see a Gulf car replica. Sky blue and orange. Yum!
And since we are on the subject of ghetto fabulous solutions, here's a trip computer in my previous appliance. Worked well, although had some problems with resetting in tight corners.
