Default trade 993 for GT3

Has anyone traded their 993 for a 996 GT3? I would love to keep both, but the wife will not let me have 4 sports cars.

Mooty,

That's not what I want too hear. I'm so on the fence about this. I keep walking into the garage and thinking "how can I sell this car, it's the one I've dreamed about all my life".
On a side note, you and 911slow change avators a lot, liked the one of you and a female (wife), guessing she did'nt.
Some time in the future I think I'll get a gt3/2. Hopefully it'll be in Cali so I can get out on the track with you.

Cheers,
Geoff

PS; hope my spelling is good or the 993 spelling police will be after me

The 996GT3 is a formidable car no doubt, but personally I can't get over the headlights.

Windydog,
The wife won't let you have 4 sports cars????
Obviously you're venting a bit here. You know the wifey will give you even more griev if she reads this thread. Now I don't know your personal situation or who's bringing home the dow but if my wife ever told me to sell my car just for the reason of having too many of them, she'd be out the door before anything else will happen.
Now if there are financial issues to take care off might be a different story or if the rest of the cars are just sitting around w/o being driven etc.
Good luck with your decision.

Geoff,

First of all - the avatar pic - snow, really? Come on you're killing me with that! Secondly, I think you should sell your car... and then sell me your Ruf's... I'm just saying I think you'll be much happier with a gt3...

Dave Thoman (aka 007DT here) went from a 993 to a 996 to a 996 GT3 in fairly short order. I'm pretty sure he's a happy camper.

It all depends what sort of motoring you're after. If it is shear performance then clearly a standard 993 can not beat a GT3.
However. For a "medium" experienced / sedate driver such as myself, I feel a rear-wheel drive 993 offers great fun even at low speeds. Also revving the car to the redline feels a bit more "confident" in the 993. With my RS there is seemingly no limit and I must admit "higher speeds" are required to get the same feeling. The GT3 revs so freely and is really effortless in daily driving, compared to the little bit sluggish 993 at low revs.
Also, the GT3 feels very comfortable compared to the M030 suspension of my C2S which in a sense feels a bit "dated"; can't really explain it very well!

Then there's the esthetics of a 993. Nothing beats it. Plus the 993 interior smell, the thump!! when shutting the doors, the ticking noises of the engine cooling down after a drive - I could go on.

I definetely recommend you driving a few GT3 (996,997) before you decide.

I've given serious thought to trading my turbo for a GT3. Yes, the headlights are very hard to overlook!!

Juha G went from 996 GT3 to a modified 993 (traded in with another Rennlister, Chuck IIRC) and seems very happy. I believe other end of that deal is happy too so there's different ways to go and be happy.

Yeah, I just spoke with Chuck last week about that. Maybe he'll chime in, but he seems pretty happy with trading up to his GT3 but he had a couple very large repair bills that made him less than happy.

My take is that the GT3 is an amazing car with an outstanding engine. But you have to really have a good setup guy and a big budget because out of the box, they handle terribly. E.g. they won't take a set in corners, have goofy suspension, and oversteer badly. I base that on discussions with Randy Pobst among others. There's a joke amongst a few of us chicagoans because Randy was driving a buddy's stock GT3 this summer and going thru a carousel, he couldn't get the car in shape and yells out "Sit Down Bitch!". They're a handful out of the box.
