Default Driving @ 178 mph with David Donahue @ MMC(Riley race car)

So yesterday I headed up to MMC for the last full weekend
of fun in my daughter's Boxster S to see what was up.
David Donahue (Grand AM/Rolex champ) was on hand with Riley Technologies demonstrating their new track day weapon based on a DP car. An extra seat was fitted & 2-3 hot laps with David going 7/10th's were available. The car is available for $199,000 base if interested.
This unit was produces well over 600 hp. We saw just under 180 (back straight),
The car ran out of gearing!!!!.
3.5 G's under braking & 2-3 G's in the corners. I ate very lightly at lunch for good reason!!!
Lots of other cool cars showed up as well. (My favorite besides Riley car was the perfectly preppared red 993 TT GT2)

Enjoy.
Rich

Sure looks better than what passes for a DP used in competition! (Oh, and any generic non-ground effect sports racer such as my Radical can go 2.5g cornering and 3g braking. Even on crappy tires on non-aero dependent cornering I'm just under 2.0g. ~$30K will get a decent 1.3L Radical these days, though the acceleration won't wow you.)

So you are a better driver than David Donohue (dream on racer boy) .
Radicals are motorcycle engines on 4 wheels & not real race cars. Very unrealible at that. I will take a well sorted Riley any day over that BS.
BTY no Radical could ever dream of 180 mph & be safe.(IMO)
Every Radical at MMC breaksdown big time every session.

I take it this is directed at me.

1. When did I ever make mention of driving skill in my post? I made mention of performance capabilities. Period. For full disclosure however, in my 20's I did have "big dreams" of high end formula car racing with a path to Indy. Reality got in the way, and I concentrated on my education and building businesses.

2. Define a "real" race car.

3. Define reliability. I've had mine for 7 years, this year is the first time I've taken it apart for anything other than the most minor maintenance. I'm at about the 90 hour mark, and have never had a mechanical failure.

4. For $200K, something built by a well respected manufacturer like Riley SHOULD be light years ahead of a simple tube frame sports racer. An SR3 wasn't designed to be a top speed runner, which I think I acknowledged in my statement. Haven't driven an SR8; likely that IS capable of ultra top speeds, but in whose hands? Anyway, try to get around the physics. Until we get into cars with tunnels, cornering and braking performance is going to be similar. If not, educate me/us. Not everyone can afford even the entry point of a Radical (or Stohr/West, if we need to claim pedigree); I don't deny participation or legitimacy of even being at the track based on ability to spend. Further, EVERY Radical breaks down "big time" EVERY session? Really now.

Ultimately, go ahead and be an online ******* hiding behind an anonymous screen name. I'm up front with who I am, what my experience is (or isn't), and attempt to be helpful.

Ok ,you convinced me your an expert/ pro. Been there done that-Blah, blah blah, blah blah etc.
Just dont come across as the definitive guru on all track/performance topics. it annoys us.

Be careful with the A word. Easy to use all the way from Cali. No hiding here. I can back up my threats if neccesary.

I was just walking down the street and some ***-hole told me that I had threatened his wife....

I have no idea who he was....

Is everyone's dander up because of the election tomorrow?

Why are people so damn nasty?

No- not an air cooled pissing match. Just a know it all trying to prove his weekend warrior prowess to the community.
Everyone wants to to be a race car driver /hero etc. The fact is no one with half a brain will select a kit car with motorcycle engine on 13 inch tires to compete.
