^ Mmmmmmmmmm thats a work of art - loving it (thanks again for the links)

I now think I’d rather go down the “integrating a stock 993 grill” development now - let’s wait until we get it bolted on the car first.

Having seen the above pic I do not think that the S/P grill design will integrate very well since the duck tail recess is much deeper than the S/P pic I posted earlier?!?

I must be used to my early style grill because this just seems too big.

This tail has been extensively massaged to accommodate the 993TT intercooler underneath. And it works very well..

Hi Darin, Thanks

I've been off work for the last 10 days with the flu so not a great deal of progress ... having said that, I've fully restored all satin black metal work i.e. window frames and all other little bits of trim. The interior is now back in the car as are the rear quarter glass and front windows with all new seals etc.

I'm still waiting on delivery of the ducktail (I've decided to modify to accept a stock 993 center vent so will work with both N/B and Twin S vents). I’m also still waiting on a new front screen so I can get the glass fitters out to install both front and rear.

Lastly I've started to remove a lot of the over-spray from the underside for sanity sakes

I promise to add some update pics tomorrow as I intend on spending all of Sunday on the car - I'll start re-sizing some pics shortly to post.

Best regards,
Mark

Quick note on the 997 duck tail - it's meant for water-cooled cars. The opening is just enough to get air into the intake. The water-pumpers don't have a fan

In other words, I don't think that tail would work well long term for this project. You'll need one with a bigger air dam. Best of luck!

Regarding the black trim on the lenses I would try not to paint the outside. You could get glass paint but it won't last long in road conditions. The headlights separate and you can remove the lens covers and paint them from the inside. I did just that with my H4 headlights on the RSA a few years back - painted them completely yellow on the inside and they last forever.

Now the other problem you may have is that the shape of the headlights is different between the 993 and the 997. You just don't have that even outline with the 993 headlights. It's thin at the bottom and thick at the top. I suppose if you tried really hard you could create a similar outline to the 997 headlight but again, I suggest painting the inside of the glass.

Instead of paint, you can use a black adhesive "trim ring" on the glass which will stick nicely as it would on the windshield, and is easily removed/replaced as needs/wants go.

Hi Bart ... thanks for the links which looks very interesting and I'll go and read it back to front later tonight

Back to our project ... progress has finally resumed again as I'm fully recovered from the flu and the Duck Tail arrived yesterday.

I must say I was quiet disappointed in the quality and the overall symmetrical shape, fit etc. Basically I need to take a new mould of the bottom of the OEM steel lid (flip out) and then cut and shut into the top duck tail which also needs much correction work.

Anyways some initial pics ...

Below - Ducktail out of the box:

Below - Quick coat of Primer so we can see what needs doing to correct:

Below - Back on the car:

Below - with the ducktail slid as far back as the bolts/hinges will allow ... No shims have been used and it's simply way out :

Below - start of the modification to allow the fitment of the OEM 993 center vent grill:

Below - Start to prepare to flip a mould from the recess for the OEM grill:

I’m off out into the garage in a few moments to continue the modifications etc but as can be seen the cars moving in the right direction again

After I’ve completed the modified Ducktail detailed above, then I’m going to do a version which retains the up/down mechanism ... below should give some ideas which should look very nice when finished:

Best regards and I'll keep the progress updated.
Mark
