Love to read these stories! subscribing.
Why the name Project Battleship?
^ Simply because the colour reminds me of one

Great project. Please rustproof the seams well where the car has had the impact. Even if they look OK they will start to rust later. Check the spot welds carefully as well. They can be weakened even if they look OK. I would have some new ones put in for safety or a bit of seam welding done just to be sure.
Thanks Berni and do not worry - all has been taken care off. Alot of the front panels are brand new OEM i.e. both front chassis legs etc, rear fender was also brand new OEM from Porsche adding to the escalating costs ... tomorrow will see another hammering of the Master Card

Just a quick update from today

I promise to fill the story up-to-date shortly, but for now a quick glimps - Tomorrow the exterior will be completed, just waiting on the Duck tail to arrive and all new glass

Are you going to be re-doing the interior like the new Sport Classic ?

If only you were closer to Chicago - I'd gladly trade my blue 968/993 seats for those funny looking blue seats in your car - since you'd be recoloring and recovering them anyway.

Hi Steve ... that's a BIG YES ... but is going to be dependent upon which way we go:

Option 1 - If we can obtain the woven leather from the 997 Sport Classic then it will be fully re-trimmed in that colour. I know the leather comes from Austria for the Sport Classic but finding the actual supplier has been like the "needle in a haystack" scenario and the search still continues.
Option 2 - If we can't source the above then we will look to commission the leather ourselves if the price is not astronomical.
Option 3 - If both of the above are cost prohibiting then the interior will be fully restored like new by ourselves, but Option 1 is my preference

Either which way the interior will be left till last as we have the underside of the car, engine bay and engine rebuild plus more to do after the exterior is complete.

Ducktail shape is a a bit different between the 73RS (which most aftermarket 993 ducktail is based) and the Sport classic. Are you going to massage it to look like the Sport classic?

This was my plan but and it's a BIG BUT, “where do you stop” ... if the interest is there then definitely yes however going back to my "where do you stop!" statement ... the last thing we want to do is ruin the beautiful classic lines of a 993 by adding a silly looking 997 front bumper etc. So to start with we will paint-up exactly as per your lovely car and go from there:

Anyone want to see the first product development teaser we have already nearly completed?!?

Mark - Thanks for posting this. I have been contemplating changing my 993 to this exact color. Can't wait to see the end result.

First mod to be discussed

More development pics to follow and how we develop products etc - This new D9 rear bumper will feature modified inner wheels arch liners to vent out turbulent air plus internal heat extraction vent to force-flow hot air out the back from the exhaust ... all will become apparent later:

Next will be a direct steel "blister roof skin" for racers whom struggle which height restrictions - product in progress.

"It was nice to see you, to see you not!" Just another head **** to deal with ... and if you think this is bad then you want to see the smashed bearings in the driveshaft on the rear side of impact ... then there is the LSD, but we will get to all this later = MORE money :

I can officially confirm that it really takes an idiot (us) to take on something like this ... but there is worse which will follow, plus “method in the madness”

Yep mate they will in both FRP & in C/F but let’s get the car to our factory in Switzerland first so we can provide Aero/ground effects stats which is what we specialise in

We are renowned for our CF Pre-Preg in-house manufacturing, here are a few pics but I'll save this for a separate thread as not to take this one off-topic:

If others would like me to most pics of our factory then I'd be pleased

Best regards,
Mark

Nice, I like how the rear bumper looks too. Will it be available for Wide Body cars?
