Considering Purchasing a Modified 993 Turbo
Guys - I went to look at this '96 33K miles car today:
Sorry for the awful Blackberry picture.
It is a 12plug car, with Garrett Turbos, Twin MSD 6AL boxes and coils, Prototech headers and muffler, Prototech intercooler and TiAL wastegates. Car is putting down 500hp.
I did not get to drive it, but will do so hopefully next week. Paint is not bad (a little peppered on the front with a few scratches here and there), interior is decent and grey in color, no oil leaks and looks like someone spent a massive amount of $$$ on it at some point.
What do you think? Run or would you consider it if a PPI checks out?
Thanks!!
Yasin

Car is for sale for $65K. Smog is luckily not an issue as I can register the car out of town if need be.

Yasin - is resale a consideration? If it is, then I'll say forget it, buy an unmolested turbo, and you do the mods yourself. However some folks swear that a modded 993 na/turbo is more fun than a regular turbo. If u decide to go that route try and get the price down some. Post the quesiton on the turbo board also.

[QUOTE=slownrusty;7833237]Tony - Resale is not really a consideration, I tend to keep cars for a long time. The build sheet on this car adds up to just shy of $40K in mods! includes suspension work. I posted the same question on the Turbo forum but the traffic is less there. Would you say the mods on this car has hurt its value and if so..what would you say is a reasonable price?
Hard to really put a price on it given the mileage is so low. PPI is a must, post up some more pics... ask Jean or ScotM or the turbo forum..hmm GT2 conversion --)

I think Tony is suggesting that you buy a factory 993 turbo. $65,0000 is a lot of coin for a non-factory turbo and can buy you a nice TT that will retain its value far better. A RUF is the only turbo conversion I would consider. I would be worried about buying a repair headache with the car you're considering.

It looks like it IS a 993 turbo... that has been modified.
Twin plugs, "larger" turbos, tweaked ECU, additional oil cooler, etc... common stuff to do to get to 500hp
Value really depends on who did the work.
At current pricing, $65K is a lot even for a good one of these.
That sort of horsepower in a 993 turbo is usually for straight line speed
