Here is a list of cars I have rebuilt;

2000 Audi A4 8000 miles
2002 Audi S4 5000 miles
2002 VW Passat 1.8 3000 miles
2002 VW Passat 3.0 5000 miles
2003 VW Passat 1.8 7000 miles
2006 BMW 530I 8000 miles
1997 Porsche 993 Cab 58000 miles
2005 Audi A4 1.8 22000 miles

From 2000 to 2008 I bought 8 damaged cars and had them repaired. Two friends own a salvage yard. Each daughter got a Passat and the son an Audi A4. My wife and I drove the S4 and the BMW.

Some of the cars were lightly damaged. The S4 Avant only had 5000 miles on it and the repairs were in the area of $8000. The window sticker was $43K. If someone has a new car and gets in an accident they often insist on having the car totaled so they can get a new car. They don't want a repaired car. The insurance companies will settle if push comes to shove. It's cheaper to settle than have a protected legal battle. This is particularly the case where the driver was not at fault.

I sold the S4 and one of the Passats below the going market value. But I had less in the cars than the non salvaged cars. Two of the Passats were totaled by the daughters as was the 2000 Audi. The insurance company paid off as if they did not have salvaged titles. We had the Audi A4 for 9 years and 90,000 miles. It was handed down from my son to one of the daughters. The insurance paid off $12,000. The same amount I had into the car in 2000.

I would never buy a salvage car unless I rebuilt it or I had photos of the damage and got a great deal on it.

My rebuilding days are behind me. But they were fun.

Best of luck to the OP on the sale.

Paul, as the owner of a Porsche dismantling yard you should have a very realistic idea of the value of this car ...

The car originally was bought by me with some Rocker panel Damage, That has been fixed by what I consider to be one of the Best body guys in Portland which is a long time Family Friend, The work is So great even I was Surprised with what it looks like.
