I believe that's Lorenfb's company. He's on Rennlist. $115 is a much better price, I'd like to see what his turnaround is, but potentially would be interested in doing something like that. And it would be easy to send the module in the winter when my car is sleeping

My purchase was April 2009. No exchange. I gave them my CC# over the phone and they shipped the next day. $14 shipping. Popped it in the car and it was done.

I noticed the OEM control modules retail $343.50 new at Pelican Parts. Maybe the prices went up just recently and so there's not enough markup for RUF anymore. But if they're only now using cores that people are sending in and still charging the same amount, then I guess their profit just skyrocketed.

Or maybe you and I just fell through the cracks?

OK, here's the reply I received from Cactus' referral:

Hi Dan,
That's correct, we can re-calibrate the up/down speed of the rear spoiler.
The ECU, though, must be the early ECU, i.e. without the large integrated
circuit (18-20 pins). The price is $130 plus shipping.
Regards,
Loren

More "flies in the ointment"? Hope that's helpful to you all. I'm going out to count the ECU pins; with a '96, I think I may be out of luck.

Loren from Systems Consulting is a Rennlist member; I've seen him post on here before...

Oh well. That means I'm out of luck with my '97 most likely. Anybody want to get a group buy on the RUF module going again? This time I won't be organizing though! ;-0

I will call Loren today and confirm the technical details for 993s. Then I'll post here again.

UPDATE: I just talked to Loren (who it turns out is a Rennlist member BTW). Here's what he said:

The 96-98 ECUs are not compatible with their fix. They do not have access to the capability to reprogram the more complex ECU chip like RUF does, which is why RUF needs the core back to do the job in the first place.

The earlier (964) ECUs have the less complex chip that Systems Concsulting can reprogram. So finding one on EvilBay, or getting one from a dismantler, is an option here. He suggusted that you do not buy a 964 ECU from a dealer becasue these will most likely have the newer chip installed. So it has to be an original 964 ECU. He said that installing this older ECU would not affect any other operations on a 993.

Finally, he was not sanguine about getting cores back from RUF, even when I told him we were going through Michael (the USA RUF rep)--I'm just sayin'

Hope that helps

So, RUF is charging close to $400 retail just to reprogram an existing ECU for a spoiler? That's nuts. It's not like it's an engine tune or something. I'm curious as to why two of us here got complete modules without sending in cores(?) And wonder about other people who have RUF modules (did they get one w/o core exchanges?) Getting an extra module and the reprogramming at that price is okay, but just for the reprogram itself seems way too much. Or has their price been now dropped dramatically with a core exchange? It's still in their catalog for $399 list.

IIRC that's about what I paid when I bought my module a few years ago. I agree that RUF is taking advantage of the situation if they now want a core but haven't lowered the price. I can also see that with new modules at $340 a pop it's unlikely RUF will sell an updated new one for the old price. Seems to me a two tiered price would be fair, say $500 if they supply the module and $250 if they use yours...or something like that.

If system consulting can modify my early type module for 130$, then Ruf won't sell many of theirs for the early 964s.

This is now on my winter project list-I hate the constant spoiler up/down when driving in stop and go highway traffic. Will be contacting Loren to confirm he can do this on a 1990 964.
