A little, yes (especially in hot weather).

Changes made to the timing tables in good performance software makes an even bigger difference with good gas.

so what does this chip support? i have fabspeed exhaust, andial semi-LWF and plan on adding an intake, sport cat and possibly headers in the future. Will this work with the chip?

Not really, unless it's really hot and your car is pre-detonating. Conventional wisdom is that you want the lowest octane fuel that won't knock given your ignition timing, temps, etc. Any higher octane and you're mainly just wasting money.

The lack of knocking sounds doesn't mean your programming is safe. Detecting pre-det is done with knock sensors or, if you're so inclined, a pair of det cans (headphones hooked up to the engine block).

I run a performance chip too, but this is like the Bud/Miller argument; everybody swears there's a difference but the reality is that nobody could tell a difference in a blind test.

Not to nitpick, but detonation and pre-ignition are two different things,....

Speaking only for myself, we use the factory scan tools (Hammer & PST-2) to monitor knock counts in the ECU to observe knock-sensor activity as well as watch ignition timing in real time. Its FAR more accurate than the human ear,....
