Thumbs down Turning radius

I hate the turning radius of my car! It's too wide.

From what I understand, the steering rack for the 993 was copied from one found in the Lusitania's parts bin.

Just do a Formula 1 u-turn when needed.

Are there any manual racks for our cars with a tighter turning radius?

Default Where are you turning???

Lombard St. in San Francisco? I have never sensed a turning radius problem...and even if there were one (not the correct usage of the subjunctive here), I'd live with it based on all the other positive attributes of the car.

I suppose you could put on tiny tires on front, 205s? I have 245/30/18 tires on the front of my NB 993, no problems yet!

What width rims do you run in order to fit the 245s?

I have run 245 40/18's on 8.5" rims, works pretty well.

I used to have a Volvo S60R which has the world's worst turning radius. It was totally embarrassing trying to make a U-turn anywhere. I also used to get the middle finger when trying to navigate the ramps in tight parking decks; everybody thought I wasn't giving them any room, but I just couldn't make the turn. It was like docking the Queen Mary without any tugboat's help.

The 993 is equally as bad. It's the one thing I really, really dislike about it.

OTOH, my E63 AMG has an AMAZING turning radius and it's a fairly big yacht. The wheels turn in when you turn the wheel tight; it's a breeze to park and do U-turns. Ironically it's way more nimble in tight spaces than the 993.

I too have an E and I'm amazed at its turning radius. In my parking garage at the office I dare not goose the throttle to "turn" the 993 as it's quite tight and I'm often subject to the standard 993 twenty seven point turn to get the thing parked or out of the space. My E class has no such issues...

Isn't that what oversteer is for?

Exactly - if you're drifting, the turn radius is very tight indeed.

Rev engine to 5000RPM's pop out clutch as you have the wheel locked, very small turning radius, some would say turns on a dime.

Turning radius on the track = OK.

In parking lots = Not OK.

One of the quirks of the 993...
