Sounds like some progress has been made on the communication front with the shop. Good news. BTW Cactus if you have overstocked on beer in preparation for dealing with this, feel free to send surplus supply to me

Hmmm. One thing that you guys will probably not be aware of is that paint manufacturers are having to change their products to suit environmental legislation, so it may not be possible to buy solid colour finishes for much longer. This is certainly the case at 9m Panelcraft where we use Lechler paints and have had no choice but to change our entire colour tinter scheme four times in the last 7 years; we've gon through Isoakryl, BSB & Macrofan solid colours until we are now on the new water based Hydrofan which is a clear-over-(water) base coat system. We've also had to change the clear laquer product three times in this period, so just be aware that this is going to be an on-going problem for most shops. Ironically metallics are the easiest to match as you can blend them to a large degree, micas (like ocean blue) and solids are generally more difficult to match, expecially edge-to-edge.

I don't know the current US legislation, but I would guess that most large paint shops will only be able to buy clear over base products, so don't be too harsh on critisising their methods when the reality is that they may not have any choice.

Cactus:

Sorry to hear of your troubles with the paint.....what's the latest? Have you seen the new paint to see if it matches? If Andreas brings the potato gun....take pictures

Hey Soapy Sack! Nice caliper you got there. Nothing yet so I'm hoping for the best and they are assembling the car as we speak with perfectly matched parts

Bob-
Go get a mild polish and polish a small area. If paint comes off, no clear. It won't harm the paint if you are worried about harming the paint.

I can't help, but can share my experience. My local body shop did an amazing job on my car. Euro bumpers, painted engine grille and lid from removing the basket handle, all in aventurine. They used DuPont paint and had the sales engineer come it to match it. The grille frame is original and the lid & grille are painted and you absolutely cannot tell a difference in any light. Aventurine must be tough - it doesn't even have green in it. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Hang in there and don't settle!

My cab had repainted doors w/ clear... the rest of the car, best I can tell was the original single stage. It was very well done and I couldn't tell the difference in color at all.

Good luck!

They finished it up this week and I stopped by after hours to see. The paint finish and sideskirts looked great so far but it was dark in the shop and all the guys were gone. Going tomorrow to pick it up and check the match. Another hitch is the total is almost $500 over the estimate.......

Why the $500 difference? If you were given an estimate and the paint didn't match, they should eat the cost.
