Default Making the spoiler switch-activated only...

I would like the tail to operate like this: when I press the top of the rocker switch, the tail goes up; when I press the bottom, the tail goes down. Otherwise, the tail stays put. I'm tired of the up-down, up-down every two minutes when I have to drive in traffic.

Someone on the 964 forum figured out a very simple way of doing this:

https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ated-only.html

Anyone know if this trick works the same for the 993? Is the spoiler control module the same as on a 964?

Ruf makes a control unit that raises the speed of operation, It may be just what your looking for.

I pulled my control unit out after converting to a fixed spoiler. I was going to put it on Ebay cheep, you may want it to play with.

It is a 964 part out of a 96 4S, 964-618-212-00

The great benefit of the mod the guy on the 964 forum figured out is that it costs $0.00 whereas the Ruf part is hundreds of dollars. But if the spoiler modules are the same part, which stands to reason given Calvin's post, then maybe this operation works the same on both cars.

Last I checked the Ruf module was $400. Spoiler up at 120kph (~75 mph).

Same part as the 964, I have it in my hand. But who wants to dick with the spoiler switch? You can disable the spoiler in the up position for stop and go.

Right, but every time you shut the car off, you're back to square one. And there's no dicking with the module -- the mod is unplugging one wire from it. Not exactly a big deal.

I like the sound of the manual activation mod. I looked through the 964 thread & it seems pretty conclusive & completely reversible.

Keep us posted on your success Noah.

I don't really understand how this can be annoying. You can't see the spoiler and you shouldn't be able to hear it, so whats so annoying?

Furthermore, what if you forget to hit the button one day. May not overheat, but you're not doing your engine a favor.

Put it up manually, it will not go down with speed, until you remove the key from the car. I do this every time I Auto-X.

The spoiler is a grille. Tons of air flows through there regardless of whether it's up or down.

Just think about it this way: How did 911's before the advent of the electric spoiler stay cool? And how does a 993TT, which doesn't have a movable spoiler, stay cool?

The real overheating danger with a 911 is when you're idling in a traffic jam and very little air is being pushed through the cooling fins of the cylinders and heads or through the oil cooler at the front of the car. As soon as you get moving, there is massive airflow over both the engine and the oil cooler.

Bite the bullet and buy the RUF module. It's one of the best mods I've done. Basicallly no up and down of the spoiler unless your getting out of the city. Yes it's expensive but it sets the spoiler to activate at more reasonable speeds. You don't have to put up with the dam thing going up and down when your driving around town. Well worth the money!

What's annoying is that one of the most pleasing shapes in automotive history is ruined by what appears at first glance to be an elementary school lunchroon tray left sitting on the rear deck. It just looks frickin' silly, that's all.

As for cooling, I could stand for my car to run a little hotter...It takes forever to heat it up so I can check the oil.

No disrespect, and this is not directed at any one person...

One COULD spend hundreds on a RUF conversion, or take the time and energy to fabricate a cheapo fix.

Personally, I think if something like this annoy's someone, the thing that needs to change is one's perspective. How such a tiny thing can get under one's skin eludes me. One must living a pretty charmed life if this is one of life's problems and even makes it on the radar.

Me, I'm just happy to be driving my 993. It rarely ever goes beyond that...

Noah, I really struggle with your dilemma; before I installed my fix wing I had no idea when my wing was up or down...if it weren’t for kids pointing at it, I would have no idea if it was still operational or not.
