I just finished and shipped this clock to our own Robert Collins. The fan was stripped to bare magnesium, etch primed and painted with three coats of DupliColor hi-temp "Aluminum". This was covered with three coats of Duplicolor hi-temp clear. (Click here for other examples.)
The base is 1/4"-thick plate steel, etch primed and then painted with Duplicolor hi-temp "Low-Gloss Black". I created the underside of the base by first polishing a portion of the steel, then applying my decal, bead blasting over this, and painting it with clear once the letters were pulled.
This project took a bit longer than expected, as finding a nice clock mechanism proved somewhat difficult. After purchasing one, I found that it needed a new black bezel and a thorough cleaning of the inside of the lens. Once again, I relied on North Hollywood Speedometer for this.
I'm pleased with how the clock turned out and trust it will give years of enjoyment. Robert - Thank You!
Andreas

The end result looks like a happy face and a smiling sun. Very nice work as usual. If I ever sell my car due to our finances, I'd like to at least be able to get one of these with the proceeds of the sale as a reminder of what I once had.

You know where I live.
