Default New here... Looking at buying a 993

Hey Guys!

Seriously considering this 993... never owned one, don't know what to look for.. Also, pricing of the 993's seems to be "all over the map" if you will...

Specs:
# Year: 1998
# Make: Porsche
# Model: 911
# Trim: Carrera S 993
# Odometer: 77107
# Transmission: 6 Speed Manual

EDIT: Forgot to add...
* Porsche Option Decode
* 09991 manufacture from the exclusive-programme
* 159 Motor Sound Pkg
* 220 Locking differential
* 224 Active Brake Differential
* 329 Radio
* 373 Left Sport Seat w/ Power Height Adjuster
* 374 Right Sport Seat w/ Power Height Adjuster
* 454 Automatic speed control
* 490 Hi-Fi sound system
* 650 Sunroof
* 983 Leather seats front and rear
* 983 Leather seats front
* C02 Equipped with catalytic converter
* X54 Oval Chrome Exhaust Pipes
* X70 Metal Door Sill with Insignia
* X71 Aluminum Instrument Dials

Thoughts on what's this one is worth? Thanks in advance!

Default need more info really...

owner/mileage/maintenance history. There are quite a few C2S's on autotrader and cars.com right now. Is this a private sale, or dealer sale? Many have much lower mileage, but worth comparing anyway.

The C2S and C4S can be priced very high, IMHO. All things considered, this could easily be a $40K car...maybe more.

There have recently been two very beautiful C4S's with similar miles(1@80K, 1@90K), that sold via private party at $34.8K & $32.5K respectfully. Since I am in the market for a C4 or ideally a C4S, I would like to think those two cars reflect realistic market pricing.

Don't forget to have a complete pre purchase inspection done at a knowledgeable air cooled Porsche facility. This site is an absolute treasure trove of information and good will, take advantage of it.

Good Luck!

First off, welcome!

Yes, prices can be "all over the Map" some things that have an impact on pricing are, previous service records(or lack of), mileage, modifications, clean PPI among the standard stuff age, visual condition etc.. The "S" wide body models bring more money, without knowing much on the car you posted a ball park figure I'd say $36-41K + or -. Just make sure you have a good PPI done and figure about $3-4K or extra money for upgrades and unexpected service items.

Check the VIN to make sure it's an authentic 'S'.

The C2S came with a special alu shifter and matching handbrake and this car has neither. Ths car has a 996 shifter with a std handbrake.

The tips also look different than the ones that came with the motorsound package.

The S also has a unique door sill, so I'm surprised to see that optioned out.

My 97 S from a couple years back came with the standard shift and brake lever so I'm not sure that would necessarily disqualify it as being a genuine S.

It's definitely a widebody.

It has the motorsound airbox but the tips look like big ovals (that's a good thing).

First off, thanks everyone for the feedback/insight... much appreciated. It's listed right around most of the above mentioned values.

EDIT: Also, what's the maintenance like? Any serious and/or known issues I should look for?

Based on my limited knowledge, I'd think the "widebody" aspect would prove it's a "S"... Carfax was the only so-called VIN decoder that would indicate 2S/4/4S

Not sure about the shifter/handbrake... but it's got these options listed.

FYI: Aluminum sill plates, aluminum shifter and matching e-brake were an option on all models including the S.

To clarify the car in SF that went to France...........last Tuesday at Laguna the previous owner was there (though I never caught up with him). But another friend, the guy who drove my RSA down so I could have a spare car available, and also owns a '95 gave me the rundown. He felt the interior was pretty rough, and it had a rust repair in the windshield area. I think it sold for a fair price; just not quite the deal that's been claimed around here?????

Since you're new here, it's hard to tell if that's a joke...This is generally not the kind of place where that would happen.
Keep looking. Your car is out there.

I'm offended by that, like I suspect many here will be. The 993 community is very small. Someone who would do what you are insinuating would not last long on this forum. You wouldn't know that because you just dropped in for some free advice.
Good luck with your search.
