I'm wrong, you're right-they're very similar but I now see the knurled adjusters on the inside.

The Sport seat that is the subject of this thread, i.e. the one produced from ca.1986 on up to 1995 never came in a full manual mode. The 911 3.2 Clubsport had a very resembling full manual sport seat, that was a sportseat backrest coupled to a std non-sport seat manual base. I can't tell for the 928CS, but I suspect these were either part electric, or the same setup as in the 911 Clubsport. I have never seen a full manual sport seat in the type that was available from the factory 9186- on.

I wonder why they did that? I'm assuming weight because that was that programs magna carta, a light weight coupe with a slight ecu re-map. It just seems odd that they wouldn't have at least reworked a power sport seat into a manual ....

Basic 928 CS version were definitelly fully manual. There are also electric seats in some of them. I'm not absolutely sure if bottom is sport or same as in 911 CS. There should be pics in 928 forum but finding them seems to be impossible.

Here is a picture of a full manual sportseat in a prototype (?) 928 CS. Hard to tell, but it looks like non-sport bases, which would make sense considering they are contemporary to the 911CS which had non-sport bases with sport backrest, for a full manual seat.

Red CS is possibly one of two demonstrators which were two first production cars made in '88 MY.

In '87 MY factory did four white CS protos for racing drivers who were working for Porsche at the time. IIRR this is one of them.

In '88 and '89 MY CS was available from dealers. Some had these seats.

Hard to say from pics if all three use non sport or sport base. White and red could be non version but grey looks more like sport to me.

Here is a side view of a sport seat, with the electric (sport) base. I'd say the bolsters are much more pronounced.
That said, I really wish there exists a fully manual "complete" sport seat, because I'd buy it in a flash, but sadly I doubt it.

Yes, very noticeable when compared to the 928 seats above ...

Anyone know the precise weight of these 4-way seats? I imagine they're a little lighter than the 8-way 993 seats. But maybe not.

Hi Berni,

Do you know when they started using the hardbacks?

Were they standard equipment or a Porsche option?

Are these what you are calling hardbacks?

Those are hardbacks. Here's a post by Tim Moffat earlier in the thread about the changeover from the early style to hardbacks:

Thanks for that bit of info. So my 06/95 production 993 came stock with them. I wasn't sure.

Did all hardback seats just have the two-button controls or did some come with three-button controls?

I've seen some pics of non-hardback seats that are three-button with a smaller switch (a rocker switch for heated seats?).

Yes, it would appear that anything built after February '95 would have had hardback seats as an option although in the past, Porsche has had periods of 'mixing' old and new during transitions there could be some exceptions out there.

I'm under the impression that you could order these seats with any seat options available. Here's a picture of Hardback seats with Supple leather, 8-way power and heat. Note the different stitching pattern on supple leather (straight across instead of curved ...), I've got a question out to the owner of these trying to figure out what they are .....

One needs to make them same way as I plan on making 12-way heated seats with memory, sport backrest and normal base combination.

Each electric motor weight maybe half kilo. There are two more of them in 8-way compared to 4-way version so 4-way is at least somewhat lighter. Difference between rest of the electic vs manual mechanism for fore/aft and backrest angle adjustment is probably minuscule.

That is also a plan of mine. Have you priced the list of parts necessary? I am foremost interested in retrofitting the heating, but a heated 12-way would be the holy grail.
