According to Paul Champagne they are all the same basic recaro seat.

Well, I think this confirms it along with all the other evidence. If 951/968 and 964 seats bolt right in and late 911 seats bolt into a 964 and vice versa then all sport seats from 1985 to 1994 should be able to be bolted into a 993 using the stock mount points. That widens the field a tad .....

Starting 1985, the sport seats have all the same frame, with minute differences in stitching pattern and top of headrest area. The seats in my 964 (from the factory) have 944 parts number labels, and I have seen a few 993 sport seats with 944 labels as the factry did not re-number them when they were building the 968, 964 or 993.

Difference between sport and regular seat frame is much smaller than what one would think by looking finished seats. Its possible to convert regulars to sports by changing four pipes, two on base and two on seatback. Not too difficult job. If plan is to fully recover seats its easy to do regular to sport conversion at the same time. Or something custom like mix between sport seatback and basic base for example.

All '85-95 MY seats share same basic structure, same elecric motors etc. 928 seats have separate center section and 928 seats might look quite different compared to 911, 944, 964, 968 and early 993 versions but they too share same components under leather. Its possible to add features to basic versions all the way to 12-way sport seats with heat and three position memory function for both driver and front passenger using 928 memory modules which are right under seat.

To give some idea what custom stuff is available:

968 register guru Jeff C states that of all the late model 968's less than forty had the 993 early type sport seats. I was lucky to get mine from a wrecked mo30 coupe five years ago.

Those are 911/944/964 seats, not 968/993.

Hey Noah, did you pick up Ian's set? Good deal if you could pick them up. I think if I were to buy some earlier seats and re-cover them, I'd wait for some with power and heat. I really liked heated seats, I used them all year in the cab.

They are indeed not 964/993 seats, but the difference being so small, I would go for condition over stitching pattern.

I did! Picking them up next week. I'll bring them to my leather guy and have the worn bolster repaired. I forgot to ask Ian if they're power or not -- I'd prefer no power, because power seats weigh a ton. Do you know which they are?

4-way power. I'm not worried about weight because my car's use is on the street. I think even for a 50/50 track-street use, I would want Sparco's.

Sportseats of this type never came in no-power version.

If you mean earlier version which is in Pelican pics they were available in all manual version. Well maybe not exactly same 911/944/964 version but one used in some of the 928 Club Sports but I suspects 928 CS were not only one to use fully manual version without height adjustment.

I guess you could remove the power motors if they're that heavy.
