Honestly? I have no real gripes. I love these cars and, perhaps stupidly, view their "inconveniences" as part of what makes them what they are.

If I was forced to come up with a few things...

1.) Although the design is beautiful from the outside, I really miss the pre-993 headlight tubes from the driving position.
2.) I feel as though my throttle lacks precision... input does not always seem to equal output. This may be that old grip about V-ram cars v. non V-ram cars. Low throttle inputs (especially blips for downshifting) I just cant seem to get perfect yet and that usually comes quickly for me.
3.) For an (inflation adjusted) $75,000 car, you'd think some of the interior bits would have been crafted from better materials.
4.) My model year's ECU is completely unmodifiable.

This is, keeping in mind, that all the usual upgrades have already been done... so I'm very happy with the suspension, shift ****, steering wheel, etc, etc.

My biggest gripe is that it won't be my daily driver after my 8 year old son gets too big for the back seat.....

I had an '81 VW Rabbit convertible in college. It had an amazing insulated convertible top with a glass rear window - with de-froster. You would think Porsche had access to this technology 15 years later.

I like both!

Ummm. You do have a front passenger seat, don't you? Or is that where the current cup holder sits?

Curious about how many have come through the generations to get to a 993. I can certainly add to the most common points as listed so far. But for a final refinement of something that was a clean sheet design 35 years prior, all the bad HAS been pretty much figured out. Alas, external forces (government regulations, consumer demand) required the next generation be a clean sheet.

My progression of personal street 911's: '68 SWB faux 2.0S, '76 faux SC w/ real '73RS engine, '79SC 3.0 Euro and 3.2, '74 faux IROC 3.5, '92 C4, '77 faux 3.0 930, '73 S, '93 RSA, '97 C4S, '73 faux RS, '73 1/2 T. Amazing to drive the pretty decent '73 1/2 and realize it actually still works, more or less, as an everyday car.

Well...I actually drive at night maybe 2 times a year, so its not really an issue. But, my point is...that the brights on these cars are about the same brightness as a good set of dim lights on a "regular car". Example...the low beams on my '08 535i are brighter and more "in the face of oncoming traffic" than my 993 high beams. Also, I can't remember anyone "flashing" me to turm of my brights. After all saying that...your point is well taken...I definitely do NOT want to be one of those people...

I'll go with gearing too tall.

I thought of one more gripe: watching Porsche hike the parts prices every few months. I need to start stock-piling more than just wheels and tires.

Why on a "ultra" sports car did they put the gearing on the Tips to shift into 4th gear at 30mph in (D)rive, and start the car off in 2nd gear? Yet the warm up (mode)mapping starts the car off in 1st and the gearing is much better.. It makes no sense.
Why are there no cup holders?
Why did they put those air passages in for the SAI without thinking that maybe there might be an issue later on down the road. And then decide those narrow passages needed to be monitored by the OBC.
Why in my year (96'), did they make the ECU virtually impossible to modify?
I mean come on.
Did those bumperettes really meet the 5mph standard. What about the middle of the bumper? Aren't the bumperettes are off to the side?
And why did the rest of the world get larger Anti Sway bars than the US? Shouldn't we have had larger, stiffer bars to offset the fact that out cars had to be so high off the ground?

Hmmmm

Hmmmm
The warm up mapping stays in low gear in order to heat the cats up quicker. Its an emissions thing.

One might question why porsche made a tiptronic in the first place...
