Default Cabin noise..motor mounts or mufflers?

I installed wevo soft mounts as well as FDM stage II at the same time.

The sound in the cabin is overbearing with the windows and sunroof shut. I'm pretty sure its the mounts. I think I'll put the stock mounts back in to test.

any thoughts?

I agree. The stiffer mounts allow a lot more vibration from the engine to get into the cabin. You should consider the RS mounts instead.

Noise comes in lots of different flavors. Can you describe the sound and under what conditions it occurs (revs, speed, etc.)?

Highway cruising speeds. Resonance similar to bad mufflers I've had in the past on other cars.

Doesn't sound like motor mount harshness to me. Does it make a difference if the windows are up or down? Our cars are very sensitive loud mufflers since a weird, harmonic resonance can be created. I've heard it with Fabspeed Maxflo's and Supercups.

That's odd. I have the same setup as you do (Wevo's and Stage IIs), and I have no resonance at all. There is more engine noise, vibration, and rattling inside the cabin from the stiffer motor mounts, but this is the first time I've heard someone report resonance with Stage IIs. Darin does great welds with the mufflers but I guess it wouldn't hurt to check them again. I think you should give Darin a call.

No problem with the windows down. In fact, its great.

But with the windows up, I can't hold a conversation with the wife.

Prior to install, the car was dead quiet..

I prefer leaving the windows down, but phone calls, and conversations keep coming up. its a bit too much.

I may give the mounts a try and see how it goes.

mounts give a lot of noise at idle as well.

Swap the mounts to see what it is.

Personally I doubt the mounts can create this issue unless incorrectly installed. I went to RS and can barely notice the difference in sound - like most - infact I couldnt really tell any noise difference. Id say your cans are up the duff....

Good luck.

I installed the blue Wevo motor mounts on my 964 DE car. I will say the only change was a slight vibration in the car and slight tranny noise. I also use the car on the street and hold conversations with no problem. I agree with Macca, it does appear to be your exhaust.

I've got the blue Wevo mounts with stock exhaust. No resonance at all at any speed. In fact, it's hard to tell any difference below 4000 RPM.

I have solid, metal motor mounts and a solid, metal tranny mount. The noise that I experience is a gear rattling sound that is more disconcerting (to the inexperienced passenger) than overbearing.
