That cannot be true. If it were, none of us would be able to get insurance on them! Of my 3 cars, my TT is the cheapest car to insure. And there wouldn't be many left on the road if they expired after 90 days!

Many of you may have seen recent pics of my pristine 9,000 mile midnight blue turbo after it was detailed by Phil at Detailer's Domain. Unfortunately, I crashed into a tree this weekend and it's totalled. I count my blessings that I was not seriously injured but already I miss the car. I can't imagine finding another one in that condition.
I've learned a lot from everyone on this site. In fact, I bought this car from someone here. Hopefully, I'll be back soon.
A final question I need to ask concerns how my insurance company will value the car. I know I paid more than the "book" value. Can anyone share from experience how I can get the insurance adjuster to understand the true value of a pristine low mileage 993 turbo?

That said - I'd find out what they (the insurance company) would sell you back the wreck for. If you are even the little bit handy - there are some parts on that car that would bring $$$$$$$$

Went through this when an old lady t-boned my 95 993 with 23k miles. Basically, find all the comparable highest priced 993 Turbos you can out there, compile them into a file, and give it to your insurance company *after* they make the first offer to you. rpmsportscars, willhoit, premiere, holt, those guys will be your friends because they have cars for sale and they are top dollar. Check the PCA listings as well.
You can also see if you can locate a body shop or dealer who has the black book Cars of Particular Interest publication, see what a Turbo lists for in there. If it's inline with what you paid, add that to the list. If it's less, don't put it in there.
When I did that with my 993, after offering me $10k less than I had just paid for it, they offered me the exact Black Book price, which was actually significantly more than I paid -- I had that figure well supported from other cars currently for sale.
Basically, lay out your case for how much you paid and cross your fingers.

Glad you survived and are OK. That lovely blue car... well, it is sad to see it like that. I wish you the best and hope that you can replace the car with something you enjoy, and also that you'll be careful. Sounds silly coming from someone you don't know, but take care of yourself - and others.

oh man, I'm so sorry to see this. I'm glad you're ok! Good luck getting what you can out of the insurance stealers.... You guys are making me think it's going to be worth getting an agreed-value policy when I renew in a couple months... I did ok when my '83 SC was totalled 2 years ago, I had REAMS of documentation on upgrades and services and Excellence valuation. When you bury them with paperwork and documentation it can't hurt.

I've never seen an interior of a 993 bent like that in the dash. Ouch. Glad you walked away... Insurance issues are difficult. It took me 3 months to convince Geico that my old 2001 740i Sport that was totalled was actually worth what I said it was. It was the lowest mileage one they'd ever dealt with and I had to make them believe it was worth A LOT more than they initially said it was worth. I used my salesmanship and as many low miles ads culled from every BMW website I could find.
