Removed it with the 4 spoke installed. But when the 3 spoke was installed, I now remove it, & never tired with the 3.
I have a OBC light issue, so my OBC has been out several times.

I had my dim OBC in and out several times and removing the steering wheel was much quicker and easier IMHO than taking the risk of bending the bottom ring of the gauge. (Every wonder why you see those damaged ones on Fleabay once a year)
Replacing the bulbs was a waste of time. But I tried it first like you will. As ToreB stated its a transitor problem. I didn't have the guts or the skill to try any of the DIY fixes for this so I sent mine off to Palo Alto Speedometer and they repaired it for yes Texas993 a whopping $500.

Hey Mark,
I'm apologize in advance for hijacking this thread though I think it's run it's course.
How do you like your new 997? I think there are several of us who would like to see a new thread with pics and details
Cheers,
Joe

"It can be sent to Hollywood Speedometer and repaired for a cost of $500+."
That's ridiculous. For about 1/10 that, it could be sent to Norway and back
with the repair being done.
One needs to do a better internet search for Porsche electronics repair as there
are many sources for quality repairs. Besides which the 993 OBC is beyond/at
capability limits of the sources mentioned on this thread. Other than replacing
speedo gears and repairing simple 911 tachs, good luck with those mentioned!

I'll say, 500 dollars for a 15 minute job is rather well payed. The spare part BD170 or 2N7000 transistor cost less than half a dollar.
I've done this job a number of times and will be happy to help if needed.
Cheers from Norway

I am enjoying the 997. Completely different car no question. Wanted to move to more of a daily driver so it made sense for me. To own both would be perfect.
FWIW I did my research on the 997's and found and appreciated your thread/dialouge with Tony Callas.

I obviously wanted to stay away from the 05' M96 and potential IMS issues. Bought my 997 the same way I bought my Gwagen. Had to be CPO'ed and had to be a one owner that was for sale at the same dealer that originally delivered the car new. Found my 2007 with 18K miles on a Monday morning via online in Danbury, CT and drove it 1200 miles home that Friday.

Took OBC out had to take the wheel off, only way, regardless of what any one says, and it is no biggie, changed the bulbs, no success so tomorrow I solder in the new transistor.

Right, then you should avoid all 996s and early 997s, and only consider
the re-designed 997 engine (Gen2) without the IMS, i.e. Very similar
in appearance to the 993 case design.

Your right steering wheel is easy but With the best will in the world Bill964s, "OBC backlight repair" http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...-repair-2.html
photo bears no resemblance to the circuit board I am having problems with on my 993 cabs circuit board, i.e There is no transistor to be seen on my board.
I have renewed the bulbs to no effect any one got any ideas that will help me?
