Engine wiring harness
#17
If you have the recall engine wiring harness mentioned above it has all the connectors for both vram and non vram applications, any 55 pin 993 chassis harness and DME will do fine w/ it, the diffference between vram and non vram DME is mostly in the chips, though there are a few wire differences that are easily repinned.

jmarch, I was basing my assumptions on having read your thread. I have an early 95 ECU (no drive block) – Porsche # 993.618.123.02
Do I need a newer ECU, and maybe keep the harness, or get new harness and ECU, and do I recall correctly that 96's can not be chipped?
Thanks for all the help.
Cheers,
Emerald

Thanks again for your contributions.

I'd need to look at the '95 v1 wire diagrams but all you need is to hook it up the way RS and RoW vram are run by using what on the US cars is the SAI circuit(pin 32) for the resonator flap and the '95 resonator flap circuit(pin 1) to drive the vram. Of course you need a RoW vram chip to do that.

I'd source a later 95 ECU w/o Drive Block which is Porsche # 993.618.123.03 / Bosch # 0.261.203.674. You can chip this ECU to operate the VRAM. As an alternative, you can troll Euro ebay (probably German, British or Italian) to source a 993.618.123.11. This is the Euro OBD-1 ECU w/o drive block. It will be plug and play for the VRAM - no chipping required.
Since you have the recall wiring harness, you will have all the VRAM connectors in place.

Joe

I have a 96.. Looks like my harness got fried by an act of god... you can see my other posts about my crazy fan accident.
So while fixing it... looks like the entire harness fried.
Does anyone know if the 000.043.204.61 is good for the 96 with Vram, and whether this is still available? It will kill me to pay $921 for a new one.. I can get a used one for about $450... but that has other potential issues.
Also, do you need to drop the motor to change the harness?

Shows up when I try the part number here http://sonnenporscheoemparts.com/par...&siteid=215405 so I would assume it is still available. The price is pretty good as well.
