Engine wiring harness
I am slowly gathering my parts for my winter engine build, and am looking for a wiring harness. I figured I would build the engine up as complete as possible, and then would have the option of selling the old engine as complete if someone were interested. Is 993.607.016.15 the correct part number, and any suggestions on source and cost. Thanks for the help. Got my heads with RS intake valves back from Steve, and they are beautiful.

I'm curious why you'd be replacing the engine harness - but that's not the point here...

Information:
Porsche is requesting that the engine wiring harness be checked and/or replaced on a certain range of model year 1995 and 1996 911 Carrera (993) and 911 Carrera 4 (993) vehicles.
Based on field information and internal testing, Porsche AG has concluded that the insulation of the wires of the wiring harness may deteriorate. The deterioration of multiple wires may result in shorts which affect the proper function of the engine. Rough engine running, stalling, inability to start the engine due to a dead battery, starter malfunction, and illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Light ("Check Engine" warning lamp) are symptoms for this problem.
The engine wiring harness part number must be checked on all affected vehicles. Depending on what you find when you inspect the vehicle, the wiring harness may then also need to be replaced.
Affected Vehicles:
A total of 10,300 U.S. and 455 Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Service Action.
Very Important! Not every vehicle in the below listed range may be affected. Use the ranges below as a general guideline. Alternatively, the VIN can be checked in the Porsche E-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open service action (or recall campaign). Also, the VIN can be checked via the VRU (Voice Response System) for any open listing.
The affected Vehicle Identification Numbers are contained in the VIN-Ranges shown.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. will notify all known Vehicle Owners directly by First Class Mail during the week of October 21, 2002, as per the Notification Card located in Attachment "A"

You don't specify what the MY of your car is, but the part number you list is good for 1996 MY or later non-turbo.

Enrico, thanks. I am not actually replacing the harness, I am missing one. I bought an engine to rebuild, and it did not come with a harness. I could probably use the one in the car I am driving, but since it is a 95, and I am building a later model V-ram engine, I figured go with a new harness, and leave the 95 intact.

Has your current harness been replaced under the recall? If not, it might not be of much value to a buyer of your old engine. If so, it has all the connections for the vram; you can us it as is.

my harness had been replaced as part of the recall, so it is good. I thought about using it, but figured I might go with a new one, and leave the 95 engine as intact as possible. I have found a new harness for about $200, so I will probably go that route. I will probably be replacing the ECU also as the one I have is the early model, and from what I have read, will not work with V-ram. Jmarch wrote a good series on the vram transplant, and noted the earliest ECU (993 618 123.02)
would not work with a vram, and alas, that is what is in my car. I figure I can sell my 95 complete with harness and ecu to someone looking to transplant into a 3.2

I think he might be, as I bought a harness from him. It turns out he had two, and the price seemed good. Since Geolab mentioned it, I called the local dealer and asked about part number 000.043.204.61. They said they could order it for 117.62 Fact is stranger than fiction. Why two different numbers, and such a difference in price. I am tempted to get one and sell it on ebay.

I think because the part number is for the public and the repair kit number is only designated for the dealers through TSB's
000.043.204.61 is not listed in the PET system at the dealer, unless the number is searched for, direct in the search function. Then in the PET, there is no correlation between this number and the 993, less any porsche model. So the person at the dealer does not know what the repair kit is for which car, and what it is destined for.
I took two for both engines as spare. the number shows "repair kit" in the PET, that's all
