Cascading End Over End Down The Slippery Slope!

Very nice, and I agree that the incline on the slope you slipped on was pretty severe. I applaud you for going the distance and doing it right.

Back from the dead, but why the need for a rebuild so soon?
Before the rennlist predators start pouncing...

...the concern is worn valve guides, but rebuilding a 993 engine at only 92K miles?
As 993 owners we're all crossing our fingers?

Valve guides were probably ok as oil usage was low between changes however exhaust ports were blocked and a check engine meant a top end at least to fix it properly and pass SMOG. I do not subscribe to the home remedy solution options as anything but frivolous (IMO).

Ok. You were being ultra-rigorous and cautious then?!

It might be worth a poll to see if most agree or disagree as to whether there is more than one right way to properly solve this fault. I believe most techs and certainly Porsche themselves would argue nothing short of a new top end with better valve guides is it.

goofballdeluxe post on clogged SAI, CEL, and rebuilds
Here's a post from goofballdeluxe regarding clogged secondary air-injection ports, check-engine ligts, and top-end rebuilds. https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...l#post11912323

What's your end game here do you have clogged ports and are seeking validation to stick a coat hanger up there to avoid a 100k unecessary top end?

No.
I was surprised to see a rebuild at such low mileage.
I thought the 993 air-cooled engines are supposed to be "bullet proof".
You don't need to rationalize your decision for me.
You had the money to spend on the rebuild, so you did, and had no regrets.
Others on this forum might not be so blessed, and those folks would be looking for other signs before taking the plunge for a rebuild, which as you've already noted--starts you down the slippery slope of "while you've got the thing apart, syndrome"...

Inside joke about silly threads
It's an inside joke about silly threads that have been bumped to the top for the last few days.
This thread started it all https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...a-burnout.html
which begot this thread, https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...o-an-endo.html
which begot this most recent one https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-the-rain.html
Clearly way too many cynical rennlisters on these boards, and no policing from the moderators...

I talked to several trusted Porsche engine builders about where I was at, how long did I expect to own the car, etc..and had options because I could afford it. Technically though my oil consumption was low and were it not for SMOG ran just fine just couldn't pass smog. I also wanted a Rennsport ECU but Steve said at the time he doesn't typically recommend it for cars with higher mileage and no top end. That pushed me over the edge.
