Hello fellow local Rennlisters:
It's been suggested "we" pick a date for the next DC/MD/VA Rennlist Meet and Drive. I'm scoping out some "up-county" driving routes and "Hard Times Cafe" in Rockville worked out well last year for a restaurant pick, so all we need to do by your vote is to pick the Sunday that fits most people's schedules best. I did a 30 mile bike ride in upper Gaithersburg/Damascus recently that was gorgeous so I made mental notes of a nice drive route for us. Just got this Trek bicycle (my first bike in 30 years) so I'm learning some great new roads that might make good upcoming drives.
Whatever date we pick, it's certain that 50% of the people that want to go can't, due to other Porsche events, family stuff, being out of town, time with your kids, or other reasons. But if we can at least get that other 50% of you there, all the better! I checked the Dorkiphus board and Summit Point and it doesn't look like they have events planned these 3 mornings. Our local PCA does have a "Horses and Horsepower" event on 9/13 though at 10am. ( from the PCA website - "Horses and Horsepower is a great day out for you and your family. We take a fun, back roads drive up to Charlestown Races & Slots for brunch and fun watching the ponies!") I'm not sure if an event like that really competes with our group. I'm sure I missed something big - some concours, or something else, but that's all I could find.
So, which date (s) works best? Consensus vote wins the date. As of now, I'm free each of these dates.
8/30 Sunday 10am Rockville, Starbucks ,Mid Pike Plaza on Rt 355
9/13 "
or
9/20 "
We'll do the usual: meet from 10-11:20am or so at the Rockville Starbucks, then take an approximate 60 minute drive through the country (or whatever is left of it here in Montgomery County), then eat at Hard Times Cafe in Rockville, MD (extremely moderately priced restaurant).

You could come for the meet only, do the meet and drive, or the meet, drive and eat.
Hope everyone is having a fun summer.

Anyone else care to chime in on which date they could make it before I pick the date? I think I'm going to set it up for a date, and then also have a rain date if it does rain. In the spring, we didn't have a rain date listed and it rained on the date we picked, but we never rescheduled our "Meet". My buddy is helping me work on a new driving route. It's almost done. I rode some of it today on a 24 mile bike ride with some really fast bicycling friends. Man, am I pooped!

By the time we get there, most bicyclists should be long gone because of the heat. We're (bikers) mostly out in the early morning from 8-1030pm to avoid the heat of the midday. Their were marathoners out there too, training (doing a 13.1 k yesterday), but they'll be done early as well.

I am a biker too Steve, whichever mode of transport I am on at the moment, I am always frustrated with the other for different reasons. I was half joking, but a phalanx of riders and rennlisters looking to stretch their 993's legs would have been interesting.
Thanks for clearing that up.
You think many folks are still on their summer vacations? Reasoning for minimal RSVPs?

Cool, we're getting a consensus, then. This is the preliminary driving route send by my buddy to me this morning. Some of this we did last fall... I have to drive it first to make sure it works.
Go out Montrose, pass the 270 exit, and turn LEFT onto FALLS Rd.
Go 1 mile and turn RIGHT onto GLEN Rd.
Stay on Glen Road, past Glen Mill Rd., past Travilah.
Glen Rd ends, and you bear LEFT onto QUERY MILL Rd.
QUERY MILL Rd ends and you turn RIGHT onto Esworthy.
Esworthy ends and you turn LEFT onto SENECA.
SENECA becomes RIVER Rd. Stay Right to remain on RIVER Rd.
After 6.5 miles turn RIGHT onto WEST WILLARD Rd.
Go 4 miles up West Willard, turn LEFT onto WESTERLY Rd.
Go 1.5 miles, turn RIGHT on EDWARDS FERRY Rd.
Cross 107, it becomes WASCHE Rd.
Wasche Rd. Ends, turn RIGHT on MARTINSBURG Rd.
Martinsburg Rd joins up with Route 28. Turn LEFT onto 28.
In 1 mile, at RR crossing RIGHT onto DICKERSON SCHOOL Rd.
Dickerson School Rd becomes Mt. Ephraim Rd.
Soon, turn RIGHT onto BARNESVILLE Rd.
Barnesville Rd. becomes CLOPPER Rd. / MD-117.
Clopper hits 270. Take 270 South to Route 28 to Hard Times.
