Aftermarket HID - so many to choose from
I recently passed on a set of OEM Litronics in favor of the increasing variety of aftermarket HIDs. Reading through the archives, i gathered that the Vertex was a great GB some time back, but there are others available today that meet the slim ballast, clean wiring criteria, to be had on multiple sites including eBay.
Is there a specific make/model that RLer's would recommend that is the least invasive install?
Thanks!

I went with Retro-Solutions. Got the 55W. The ballast fits in the headlight housing and I did not cut or splice a wire. As a matter of fact I keep a regular bulb in the glovebox in case my HD burns out. Takes 5 minutes.
I did have to run a round file in the opening for the bulb to to fit. 4 or 5 passes with very little pressure was all it took.
Good Luck.

I have the Pilot kit and it is flawless. Nothing but solid performance.
Mounted with velcro, no hack to the stock harness and a 5 minute job to change bulbs or put in a stock bulb.

I know it has been mentioned here many times, but I think this is the biggest bang-for-your-buck, no-brainer mod you can do for a 993 if you ever drive at night and don't already have stock xenon headlights. The stock halogens are so bad and the xenons are so good. The mod is inexpensive, requires no change to the stock wiring, and can be changed back to the stock halogen in under 5 minutes. The only down side I can think of is that it makes your clear running lights appear yellowish compared to the pure, white light of the HID headlights. I did mine last year and it puts a smile on my face every time I turn the lights on a night. Most cars are not good candidates for HID conversion because there is no lens in the headlight and you would blind oncoming drivers. Our 993's are perfect because of the projector lens and self-contained headlight buckets.

Just did this mod... I went with Gert's kit, 35W, 5000K, slim ballast.

Notes:
-- No filing required to get the bulbs in (though one was snugger than the other)
-- I used the blue bullet connectors from Ace hardware as they were easier to modify than the nice 3M version I found elsewhere (Had to split them out at the tips a bit to get them to fit snugly.)
-- Home Depot no longer carries the bullet connectors, I had to go to an electronics specialty shop, or the aforementioned Ace.
-- I used an alcohol wipe to clean each bulb before installing it
-- I ordered the extra retaining extra clips (from a TSB?) but didn't need to use them as my originals were fine
-- The posts preceding and including #57 in the following thread were VERY helpful (thanks to JPP for replying to my PM with the big clue!)

They fired right up earlier today, I will try them tonight. I also got a matching set of LED replacement bulbs for the fogs;

I'm curious to see the difference at some point between the 35W kit I have and a 55W kit, I considered the Retro-Solutions kit but decided to go with Gert.
