Mark-- Glad you stopped by; great to run into today. It's about time I showed you the "FisterD" clearbra on Speedy's rear quarter panels.
Your mini-MarkD's a cute kiddo. Was he your copilot for driving the famous Laguna Seca course? PS You have a PM; what you requested (for your use only). and an eventful one! He got to see/hear an SC lose it at the peak and end up sideways. All at 25mph :confused::confused: It was GREAT to meet a bunch of yous guys face to face for the first time (Jason/JDHertz, Jager/curvelover, Craig/cgfen and wife, Robert & JoAnne/RJT...) and more but it is early and I need more coffee. What a bunch of cool people. I wish there was more time to hang out  My kid was busy running me up and down the hill to the corkscrew. I saw parts of the property that I hadn't seen since... well, I was his age :) Folks in the paddock always invite kids to sit in cool cars. They NEVER ask me :( 550 Spyder... 7-Cup car... |

a couple other shots
Scott(Cahrera) and kids on the track, pic taken by Justin (not bad for a 6 yo) and the kid apparently very upset by Mr. Donahue. Or was it Elford? |
Still not enough motor oil in your blood yet?!
For anyone that hasn't had their fill of cool cars & isn't at the Monterey Bay Region's PCA driver's event right now, what may be last option before "Car Week" is over: Open house at the tony Blackhawk Collection (Danville, CA). Ends today at 5 PM. Just one of the impressive classics you should be able to see: 1974 Porsche 911 RSR Chassis Number 911 460 9113 - Engine Number 684 RSR 9113 delivered new to New York in 1974. First raced in Mexico City October 20 1974 with Muniz / Quintanilla / Bolanos; taking 22nd. This work horse continues from 1974 through 1986 to participate in eight Dayton 24 hour races and nine Sebring races. With its best finishes 3rd Sebring and 4th Daytona. |
Might be in the neighborhood of Blackhawk in a couple of hours..........been forever since I've been there, so I may pop over. Funny to see the last two posts of Mark's avatar with the Akin "last 935" and Jager posting the RSR above. Friend of mine owed that 935 (had to buy it with the stablemate 962). Said he couldn't fit in it as the floor isn't flat since the whole tunnel thing was going on with that car, so he sold it. He's got at least 2 other 935's, so don't feel sorry for him. And he'd hoped to have his IROC (which isn't exactly the RSR as above, but close enough). It was a car that fell into pro racing use, and subsequent hacking into a 935esque car. But the kicker on that one is that Pablo Escobar (yes, THAT one.........go look him up if the name escapes you) once owned it, and either a friend or relative raced it.

[QUOTE=RJT;6807742]He was a Rennie!!! I'm NOT telling Robert that! He wanted me to go up to him and ask him if he was on Rennlist while he was sitting in line waiting to be placed, but I said he had a female in the car with him and I NEVER go up to men I don't know when they are with a female. Females intimidate me! Robert just shook his head and chalked it up to another "JoAnnism".
Joanne, I wished you would have said hello while I was in line waiting to get placed for the Ocean event. I was actually in the car alone for over an hour, my wife showed up from the hotel in a cab and jumped in just before placing. My wife is cool, she would have talked you ear off, that is her in the reflection of the glass on her "pinkberry". |
Thanks for sharing the awesome posts and pics. I made it out on a brief whim Friday (sights and sounds were jaw dropping in itself; I can only imagine once the actual racing and festivities kicked in Sat. and Sun.). I really wish I could have stayed the weekend. Until next time....

and another funny (at least to me) pic. I told my kid "you gotta get a shot when we go down the corkscrew, OK?" "Sure dad, no problem" I knew it wasn't likely. His attempts came up a little "short" (he's 6. Get it? :) ) |
As always a fantastic show at the Historic races, especially at the Corkscrew. Not sure if anyone else saw it but in the Group 6A race a 250TR spun in the middle of the Corkscrew right in front of another 250TR. The second car barely missed T-boning the guy who spun. On the next lap the first guy lost it at the Corkscrew again (either a mechanical problem or he overcooked the approach) and stuffed his nice 250TR into the tires. I think he had a very bad day. Later, I watched Brian Redmond thread the needle in a 908 between two other cars as they exited the corkscrew. Amazing stuff.

1 of 2 factory built center seat 1959 718 RSK Why don't they ever ask us if we want a seat? |
Jo-- For your next P-car...
At Laguna Seca Saturday, Robert was interested in the tangerine '74 RSR (see bottom photo). Yesterday, I met a RLer yesterday who knows the owner. Just tell me if you'd like more info. Another option's above, FS at the Blackhawk Collection. Of course, you can't lose with a 993, or perhaps the following, shown at the Carmel Concours Tuesday. Probably has a discount for the fact it doesn't have matching Fuchs! ;)
