Thanks Bill. I get lots of complements, especially on the flooring. I am a bit of a "clean freak' with my shop". I recently expanded the garage by removing a wall so i can park my 2 cars tail to head. The space occupied by the 993 has been dubbed the "Nursery"

Happy to see that my report is usefull. But still, you have to do the job!!
Well done Bob, and much faster than I. Congrats!

How did you proceed to bring your car so high on the stands?

Hi Jim. Thank you for the compliment. I would have a lift if I had just a little more head room.....ugh...

I'm actually getting fairly efficient with the floor jack and the stands. The Essco jack stands are worth their weight in gold. And I have no affiliation with Essco.

Curve lover, Thank you!

We had a few beers last night and went to bed early. It is actually quite stressful lowering the engine out of the 993. The shear mass of the engine and tranny is quite intimidating.

BTW, I saw your speedster at the Porsche Parade in Keystone. Beautiful.... Really!

BTW, no need to support the transmission with a jack. If the engine is set properly on your ATV lift (basically resting on the heat exchangers), the transmission will cantilever quite nicely unsupported.

Looks like you have it more than under control but feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions.

Mike
Hi Mike, yes it was fun and rewarding! Did you separate the engine and tranny?

Among other basic maintenance, I am planning to install a LWFW and clutch.

So much to learn, so little time...

Thanks Andreas!

As a new guy to the forum and the 993 world, you guys are my heros. How long did it take to change the plugs? I'm guessing there were lots of cold beverages involved. Pics please.

I did a ton of research. I'm a bit of a nerd and closet wrench. I read everything I could. Of course doing and reading are 2 different things. I printed out all the DIYs from pcarworkshop and p-car and bound them up so I would have a handy reference manual. Thats a good idea about putting it on a cd for others. I've got a bunch of dirty work to do first.

Thanks guys!

Here is what's next:

hydraulic lifters
upper valve cover gaskets
timing cover gaskets
plugs
wires
distributors/rotors
lwfw/ clutch
power steering belt
SIA flush
ISV cleaning
RS motor mounts

There are probably some other things that I am forgetting, but I think that is the bulk of it.

Is there other stuff I should do while the engine/tranny is out?

Thank you JP! YOU are the MAN

I jacked it up in stages using 2 x 10 members under the jack stands. Kind of scary actually. I don't think the car is going anywhere tho.

Bob,
The print quality looks very good. I was just wondering if you went to a professional printer with the information on a disc and had them print and bind the articles. FWIW, you may want to check with those guys before distributing on a CD. I recently referred to an article on replacing the evaporator. They produce some top notch stuff! I'm glad I had it.

Yeah, it looks like you have a height challenge. I used a midrise lift and I have 9ft ceilings, yours look like 8' or less.

I would replace the engine sound deadening pad. you can get an OE replacement but I also think there are some better aftermarket ones on ebay.

If you are talking about the dist / rotors I would also replace the dizzy belt in the distributor.

For the SAI rotor rooter get some guitar strings and make sure they go way up there and use plenty of solvents.
