Weird thing happening

had the same problem and purchased the airbag carrier from Pelican which turned out to have a different profile to the one in the car even though the part number was the same. Porsche Australia said to replace the steering wheel and airbag etc. In the end I used some very firm foam rubber from an old gasket I had. Necessity is the mother of invention.

A quick fix is to stick a small folded piece of paper between the airbag cover and the steering wheel. Sort of wedge it there to keep the air bag cover away from the horn contacts. Even the 996 have the same issue, that's how I made a temporary fix.

I just repaired mine with a replacement carrier from Parts Heaven. The carrier was different, as the holes that screw in to the airbag module didn't line up. I decided to just removed the rubber mounts from the new carrier, and install them in to the old carrier, worked like a charm.

Instead of buying a new frame at a cost of $60 some dollars, once I got the wheel off, I decided the factory rubber mounts were really just a bad design and will wear out again in a few years. I took some 1/4 inch rubber gromets, cut them in half (like slicing a bagel) and wedged them on top of the contacts. The horn still works when I need it and not when I don't. The gromets cost $2 for a pack of 20 at the local hardware store.
Yes, the new frame is the right way to fix it, but even that will eventually go bad ina few years when the "new" mounts oxidize and rot out like an old rubber band will and you will be back where you started it.

Nice, Chris! That was my first thought when I started looking into it, but it was the same week that I did the PSS10's and re-charged the air-conditioner system. With my sense of guilt, timing is everything
