Default Durametric and VAG-COM users?

I was about to order the VAG-COM from Ross-Tech, and would like to know if anyone has used their HEX-CAN cable with the software downloaded from Durametric for their Porsches? Or has anyone used a Durametric cable with the VAG-COM software for their VW/Audis?

And how does Durametric limit you to 3 cars? Does the software limit the data storage after the third car or does it stop scanning after the 3rd car?

I use the VAG-COM in OBD mode. Works well and handles all the needs I've had. The VAG-COM software only works with their cable. I have 2 other cars (VW) which the VAG-COM really exceeds in it's ability to adjust and detect very sensor in the car (engine, brakes, climate control, etc).

I've used the Durametric software before getting the VAG-COM. It's excellent software but I still prefer the VAG-COM.

You use the VAG-COM on your 993?!?! If so, PLEASE tell us more, since you're the first person I've heard of to do so:

- What year car?
- Can you log engine parameters like the Durametric does? E.g. MAF, timing, etc.
- What sample rate can it log at?

If you can obtain a BOSCH KTS500 PCMCIA card, and the proper cable from Porsche (neither of which are very cheap -- I paid 500 euro for the card and $300 for the cable) then you can make a fully working PST2 out of an older laptop.

Its pricy, but in the end, its nice to have what the factory boys used at that time.

Yup, I tried, it's a NO-GO both ways. You need to buy both software & both cables. If you got a Audi Vag-Com ROCKS!!! Durametric is about the same, just not as useful for the 993. It does a lot of things, but on the same scale as Vag-Com.

You can use the generic ODBII in the VAG-Com, but there is nothing like that in the Durametric.

I'm not able to do most of the features of the Durametric on the VAG-COM but I can get the error code, see the readiness registers (which Durametric does not do), and read the O2 sensors.

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/obd-2.html

Ideally I would have both but with several Audi/VW in the extended family fleet, I switched to the VAG-COM.

My Durametric shows all the readiness states.

And the other key elements, the PST2 software & Win 3.0!

I've used a Vag-com to scan a friend's 97 C2 before. I did only use OBDII generic mode and it worked well.

I was talking about MS Windows 3.11, not the Porsche software. I have no clue where to get the Porsche stuff.
