+1. My experience with them was similiar. I agree that it's a "buyers" market and that's you my friend.

The Mercury reps must've been reading our posts here, and understood that if they didn't settle fairly with you...we'd be coming after THEM!

As I said before, don't let a $hit bag decide what you drive...the majority of us dreamed and worked our butts off for years (maybe even decades) to get into our cars. If you've earned it, you deserve it. All the best.

This says it all IMO. I busted my *** for mine for the last 15 years.

Maybe you pay for your gas with an AMEX? If so you can get your gas records from the year end report? Hopefully...
Glad to hear it's turning around in your favor

Yeah my Discover is used only for gas, that is a good way to try to work out the mileage. I just turned 30, so I may not have been busting for a long time, but I felt like no one looked at me funny when going to job sites and meetings. This next week I will be trying to test drive cars as much as I can, I guess that is a fun part to this mess.

I did get more information, that sounds very suspicious. So in case the people who took the car are reading, I am pretty sure the police have your info.

Am I to infer that we may have some lurkers on the forum with criminal minds? Down here, we consider auto thieves to be akin to horse thieves. Hate to waste a good bullet on 'em but a man's gotta do what's right.

The annoying part is that the detective wants me to do the detective work. I can't believe the police can't do a simple cross search even just by a street name for anything in a 200 yard radius over a 1 day period. No wonder so much crime is never solved.

I myself am starting to be able to put some things together along with this. Everyone here, read clearly, put deterrents on your car if you are in the LA area.

Deterrents can help, but usually will matter little if they are pros and want the car badly enough. The best thing you can do is not make it any easier for them, like leaving your car un-garaged, as you now know.

Good luck with everything, and I'm glad Mercury came through, as they are the insurance on my 993 as well.

Suggestion: If you're so fortunate as to live in an area served by them, get a LO-JACK system installed. They may steal the vehicle but it can be found in a matter of hours.

It's not just LA. I live close to one of the largest car theft rings in NA. I know because large numbers of stolen cars are found on their property each year, completely stripped and burned out.

I always park both cars in the garage. I also have a Rottweiler and a sign on my gate with a picture of a Rott saying " I can get to the fence in 3 seconds. Can you? "

Prior to getting my first Rott, my house was robbed. It's been 16 years now and have had 2 Rotts and no one comes near the house unless invited. Obviously a Rott doesn't work for everyone but the Local Cops say that a dog is the best robbery deterrant .

I have a 9mm Beretta 92FS with a Crimson Trace Laser sight that can get to the fence much quicker than even your Rottweiler!

As an update got a new car last week, a 2 seater this time. The detective is unwilling to follow any leads. Mercury Insurance was as fast as I could imagine with the payout to my original loan and myself.

It's sad as I was working hard on my new business so I could hopefully get a Ferrari or 2 sooner than later. Now I have no desire for any form of exotic. At least I got to own one of the coolest Porsches.

Unhappy

This whole thread gave me the blues. I am glad you at least got some money for it.
Damn! I thought I was safe with the Porsche. After years of driving Civics and Integras, I thought I could finally relax, and not have to worry all the time.

I guess not!
