I do see a funny brightside to this after thinking for a bit today. I am much less likely to spend into this economy now or buy anything of any form of value.

Thanks everyone for the PM's.

To add to why I am so down, my business we just started in January is just having some awful problems as well. Not only am I dealing with the car loss, but also people are not paying for work we have been doing. So I am getting hit by bad character types from all around lately. I guess peoples' true colors come out in the bad times.

Another question to ask. Anyone want to PM me on other places I can search for my parts?

KW coilovers or Work wheels for a 993 are not that common so if they pop up I am sure a rennlister will see them. I know I am keeping an eye out for you.

Try not to get too down about your busniess. My wife has also been going nuts chasing money from her clients.

TRAVANX, I know from experience that this is hard on you...over the span of many years, we were burgalized twice, our home was severely damaged by a tornado, our Ford Explorer was set on fire and our F250's tires were slashed by a teen-aged punk (and we live in a nice neighborhood!). At one time or another, poop happens...to all of us. All I can say is "practice your breathing" (pace yourself)....and just remember, nobody died.

FWIW: I had a Vette stolen, as well as a motorcycle. In each case I refused to settle for the initial offer. Document your mods, build a case for aq higher amount and hang as tough as you can. In the case of the Vette, I got a letter from a friend saying he had offered to buy the car for 17% more than the ins. co. offered, and that I had turned down the offer. That became the settlement amount.

Just saw this post and so sorry to hear about your loss. Keep your head up, and hopefully karma returns a favor or two to you, and retracts from those that stole what you value.

Just got a call for the settlement, since the car at this point is considered a total loss. I am completely shocked that Mercury is being fair. I already realized that I would not be getting any money for the aftermarket stuff, but I still tried, and got another $150 for tires at least. Amazingly I am getting back basically what I paid for the car a little over a year ago, to a total of $31,373.00 after the $250 deductible. I paid ~$32k for the car May 2008 and put about 15k miles since then.

Still no idea what kind of car I will be going with this time.

That's not too bad! Still sucks you lost the $$ that went into mods, but still that's not too bad.

Glad to hear they were fair.

In my opinion, you should get the same car. You can do pretty well with $31K in today's market. Why should those bastards (the theives) take you out of a 993?

The strangest part is that I am still preapproved for basically the same loan and interest rate I got with the car as well.

Suggest that you check with your CPA. If you can document the the add-ons they didn't allow, you may be able to claim up to $3,000 loss. Any CPA's on board who concur?

My taxes are going to be very interesting this year. Especially since my mileage log book was in the car.
