Default OT: MJ gets ripped apart

I just looked at the OT section and Michael Jackson is getting torn apart.

Which made me think how easy it is to jump all over somebody. And I've been guilty of that, too. I realize it's to be expected esp with a celebrity of such notoriety. Yes, he had a lot of issues.

It feels a lot different for me, as it hits a bit closer to home.

Here's my post on the OT forum:

I realize people like to joke about MJ and it's to be expected esp on a forum.

But it is sad. My wife worked closely with him for quite a while (Sony/BMG) and we have a lot of gifts in the house from him. She's pretty melancholy now because it not only brings back memories for her, but reminds her how troubled he was.

He had a lot of issues, but underneath it all he was like a little kid. He was a bit shy and could be really very sweet and kind. He had a lot of baggage to carry around from his family. And from being a star at such a young age.

He would call her up and ask if she could get him a book or something from the store, since he literally could not go shopping himself. He regretted not being able to do simple things like that.

Try not to make jokes. I might too, I suppose. But it sure feels different when you've known the person in the flesh.

Those are kind and wise words. I try not to go over there to the OT section. I just get myself worked up by all the imbeciles with their politics.

It's really unfortunate that he gets ripped apart rather than recognized for all the joy he's brought to the world. Ok, no jokes please.

Living is hard, dying is easy.

RIP Michael.

The man was a genius, a strange and tormented genius, but a genius none the less. He will be remembered for generations to come.

He was a genius, for sure. It's too bad people feel the need to tear him apart after death. The man lived had a screwed up life, both at his hand and by others. Can't imagine living in the fishbowl he did. Rip micheal, and best wishes to his children.

As Canyon56 knows, I worked for Sony in the 90's and was involved in a few of MJ's Single releases. He was an amazing artist that always set the bar to a new level on every project, and you can see his influence in so many artists of today. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Ditto he was the best pop artist (The King of Pop)! I saw him live in the 1980's when he was touring with his brothers (The Jacksons). His show was awesome!

His personal life was very eccentric and bizarre to say the least, but he did have a childish way to him which made him more human to me and he treated his fans with a lot of love and respect.

RIP Michael!

The way you said that...

On another note, rest in peace. Sick of all those idiots making jokes about him. He was truly a genius and the king of not only pop, but music in general.

I admit I was the first person to bust a Michael joke out at a party, but I am unexpectely saddened by his passing and have been glued to BET for the past three hours watching all his videos. His personal life over the past 10 years or so was so sensational and unbelievable that it eclipsed the fact that he was a tremendously talented artist and a kind soul (albiet slightly confused by his upbringing). RIP Michael.

We didnt (my people) like the stupit things he did sometimes, as well as some dumb and weiard excentricities, but he was, NO DOUBT AT ALL , a genius and one of the best artist known to date .... He also was like a small kid. We have to confess, that we are sad because his death ... Perhaps you may not like as a person very much, but he was a GREAT professional and a massive promoter of the american music and show-business worldwide.
