Interesting. I did my clutch (and thus lower V-covers) sometime last Oct/Nov and I got mine from IA ...and likewise inside three days. I recall pricing Hargett at the time and they were nearly identical. I went with IA because they are sponsors and they gave me a discount for having an RL membership.

I am keeping them for now. The 95 has some drippy leaks and I have n idea what will happen with the car legally so hopefully the 97 will get through PPI and I will think about using them on that car. Too many toys and not enough time.

Timely question, just started seeing smoke comimg from the the left wheel area of my '95 when sitting at idle, but about equal drips on each side per the sheet of cardboard under the car. Is this typical of lowers, uppers or something else? What do mechanics typically quote in hours to replace lowers - most likely culprit, I think? Did your wrench suggest anything else "while in there"? I have onnly 20K on the dial and still have the original spark plugs, so that's a possibility.

Im probably the wrong person to respond. It could be a number of things.

My wrench quoted me $500 (labor, I provide the parts) to replace the uppers and lowers gaskets.

My last trip to the show was my 60k about 8k ago. I did about everything one could possibly imagine.

Your car is still a virgin!! A little drip wont hurt and either fix it now or wait until your 30k tune----that would be good timing to figure things out. Or, have them look at it closer at your next oil change.

100% true.
SS is great, but is brittle and not very strong.
Also i guess some galvanic corrosion may develope.

I would try to stick to something similar to the original ones you are replacing.

IA closed up shop, so I'd assume they won't be supplying these anymore. Perhaps Steven will continue selling some little stuff, who knows.

Yup and it's not just that ss bolts can break, but they can also strip more easily. I had a hard time removing some OEM bolts to the point of nearly stripping the heads. If they were ss bolts, I would have surely stripped them, and that would have really sucked.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but getting ready to do the lower valve cover and gaskets. The car is experiencing more of a leak than weep now. I already have the gaskets, now i'm getting the valve cover and getting new bolts.

I understand there are 38 bolts, correct? Pelican sells them for $1.25/ea...that's $50 for bolts! Is there a better (read: cheaper) place to source them?

Thanks!

You only need 22 bolts if doing the lower covers.
Have fun!

Nam, My valve covers are fine. Replaced upper and lower gaskets and bolts. I replaced a couple of grommets on the timing chain cover and everything is dry. Mike
