Are you looking to sell lower ones? If so, let me know.

Hey Cactus,

I know folks (like Imagine Auto, et.al.) make the uppers, but I have never personally heard of anyone using them. Most put the lowers on and are done with leaking. There are folks who have (and still are) tracking their 993s over several seasons (years) with the IA ones and have no leaks ...that was enough to convince me. It is simply too much work/PITA to have to do again so I popped 3 bills for the lowers ...and am reasonably confident that I will never have to go in there again. I just did not read anything in my "research" that gave me confidence with the stock lowers ...FWIW.

Even though I don't 'need" the uppers I "want" them

Over torqued bolts? That distorts the gasket (or so I have read here), effectively negating the replacement.

Ed, it's been done twice, one by myself in John D's garage with him torquing it by hand, once by a reputable shop during engine-out maintenance. Still leaking. My though would be warped covers (?) At 140K mile and 15 years of age I think it might be the case. But I don't know if there's a clear way to tell.

That's the thing I kept reading/hearing from others (here on RL and elsewhere) when I did a clutch replacement not too long ago. I just had no confidence in the OE covers. Sure they lasted from the factory to you for these many years/miles, but for whatever reason there have been enough who have told their tale of leaking woe even after all was done "right."

Maybe, just maybe, if one replaced the o-ring and the cover itself, plus new bolts and washers, you may be able to buy yourself more leak-free years. But then that total cost is starting to approach the billet ones which already come with o-rings. Just my thoughts ...FWIW

Edward, good point. If the billet ones come with gaskets for $300 (is that correct?) that's not too far from $220 ($190 for a pair of OEM covers plus another $30 for gaskets).

So that leads to another question: Who makes good valve covers?

Hargett Precesion?

As long as Im there, I might just replace the lowers.

Hmmm, I didn't know they make them for all the others, including IA with their insignia??

In any event, IA is a vendor/sponsor here. Always good form to support those who support us, IMHO

Hey Mike,
Yes, precisely my math when I was deciding.

Hargett Precesion makes all of the venders valve covers and puts any company logo on them. I thought IA went out of business? I had originally ordered mine from IA and waited 2 months and never got them. I found Hargett and they said thay make all the valve covers, and IA was waiting for a bigger stock order to get a better discount. So he made a set for me and I had them in 3 days. Great service...
