Dave - that Kodak Instamatic comment just *seriously* dated you

... so that's time I bust out the Instamatic to shoot an avatar for you!

My plan is to hit the local junkyard this Saturday looking for as many candidates as I can find... we'll see what I can find.

I like the one you shot last year. Oh yeah, there it is.

I spent all day in the junkyard looking over 100's of cars to find something comparable, with zero luck. Plenty of connectors could be modified to fit the socket, however they were all too tall on the outside of the housing. Meaning that you wouldn't be able to reinstall the center reflector without hitting the modded sockets into another part of the car.

But I did find a solution at Autozone. They sell turn/stop sockets, and a GM one was the closest fit. Biggest reason it works best is that it's low profile. I ground off two of the three locking tabs and it slides in perfect. I'll seal it with a bit of RTV and voila, done.

I should finish it up today.

Funny when I looked at a few GM cars in the junkyard I didn't see any connectors like what I saw at Autozone.

Jeff96-Could you post some pix and model of car from which the connector came. I want to do this mod. Have been thinking of a motorcycle LED to go in the socket, too.

Guess I was "lucky" someone had backed into my center reflector so I could pirate the sockets from it for the new one; perfect fit!

Five brake light mod now complete, I'll post pics tomorrow when I get back.

And the part I used as a socket was new, it came from Autozone. Officially called "GM Turn & Stop Socket with Ground Tab", p/n 85881 made by Dorman Products. You only need the stop side so don't worry about hooking up the third wire, and you can use a single filament bulb.

Glad I did it, think it's a good mod, and looks good too.

Default Pic of finished tail lights

Not very picture savvy, though I can say it looks much nicer in person.

Well, all the thanks really goes to all the others who inched me along in getting this done.

Turns out it's very simple. Only two things really slowed me down, first one was finding the right socket. Second one was checking which two wires to tie into on the harness. Use the middle one (red or brown, I'm color blind) and the black one. The blue one is for the turn signals, and isn't needed. I hope the pics help say it better than my words.
