Default Would a BLACK 95 993 have basecoat/clearcoat paint?

Would a black 95 993 have basecoat/clearcoat? I know early solid colored Porsches used no clearcoat, only metallic colors used clearcoat in the 80s- early 90s. The owner of my old 993 has some oxidation issues, I think it can be brought back, but I need to determine the paint to proceed. Your help is appreciated.

I believe you are correct. I don't think they used clearcoat on solid colors in '95. The paint code number will tell for sure or use a magnifying glass or loupe to inspect where it's chipped.

when you polish the car does any color transfer to the polishing cloth (turn black/grey) If so then there is no clear.....

I am pretty sure GR is the only non-metallic color that did not have a base/clear.
Still early and my brain is fuzzy...

Even then, GR on some later cars had a clearcoat. There is a thread here somewhere with a poll...

Anyhow, easy to test as Steven said above.

Yes, there is most definitely a clear coat! About the only color that doesn't get a clear is red, but even that I think Honda is one of the only ones to still do that.

My Rivi Blue cab (solid color) is single stage. Not after the full repaint went with base/clear. Also my Fly Yellow 95 cab was single stage as well.
