Default Quick Brake Pad Question ?

Tried searching and also looked at the DIY for changing brake pads on P-Car site.

When replacing old brake pads with new, do I have to replace the shim/anti- squeal things or are those just put in by the factory and blown off at later brake changes? If I do need to order those as well as new pads,...I get 16 right?

TIA

I bought pads and rotors from Sunset no spiders. I have had no issue with noise. If you want new spiders for all 4 wheels you will need 16 (4 per wheel). My philosophy on this is if the brakes do start squealing, then I would install the spiders at that time.

I just had the entire brake job done (pads, rotors, sensors, flush and spiders) IMHO I would do it kind of a while your in there thing. I would say half keep the same spiders and half change them. I hate doing things 2 times that's why I changed them. Just my opinion.

I used pads & spiders from Sunset (Porsche factory parts) and they are silent.

FWIW, I took the spiders off. Changing the pads without spiders is a snap. A little more noise/squeal, but not a problem for me.

I changed pads and spiders. All OEM stuff. No noise at all. Really straight forward DIY. Good luck.

Sunset sourced parts (rotors, pads, spiders) and used the spiders. None of that anti-squeal or any special treatments, just installed it all. No squeal. VERY happy about that.

The amount of squeel is going to be mostly dependent on the pads used, Textar or Pagid street won't squeel much if at all w/ or w/o the spiders

Even track pads can be kept reasonably quiet if you keep them clean

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly are you keeping clean?

Thanks for all the input guys. I am used to slathering the pinkish anti-squeal goop on the backs of the pads,...not these little dampner things.

I ordered 16 new shims and new pads.

good move
i recently installed "track pads" prior to Fontana and used the 16 stick on spiders.
They were ~ $40 from Pelican and delivered in ~ 38 hours, most excellent service.

pink goo is for carnivals!

cheers

+1 for Sunset service for OEM parts, as well as Bill V's advice above.
