$35K NZD? Thats only $17.5K....might be worth it to part out in Nz and have the engine shipped.

That's a very good price if the car has a RUF VIN.

The damage really doesn't look too bad -- and apparently no airbag deployment -- but it's going to take suspension at all corners, so budget $10K just to get it rolling in a straight line assuming the engine and transaxle survived unharmed. Maybe another $10K in the body, probably deserves a complete respray, another $15K? That's $70K by the time it's transported and registered and it's never going to be a "no stories" car. Where's the market on a pristine example, $70K if it was sitting in California with clear title and registration? I'd say they're asking for all the money and expecting a body shop to flip it cheaply, which would be a crying shame. Always a shame to see a car in this predicament.

Not to kick the car when it is down. This car has the Ruf electronic clutch. I seem to remember Danial having a hard time with that thing not working right.

Adam is right. Looks from the pic is that it could have frame damage. That is a BIG deal. Still really sad to see any car, let alone a brother BTR, come to this fate.

Damage?...I'll say....It got hit so hard it moved the steering wheel to the other side of the car...

Seriously...that's a bummer....is a Ruf vin car or a converted one?

I suspect Ruf VIN. Don't know if a conversion can deliver a Ruf electronic clutch. But then what do I know.

There were supposed to be 18 (yes 18 only) Ruf VIN BTRs wrold-wide. If that is true, we are coming dangerously close to 17, or fewer.

Hi CP.

Fewer - kind of. Three of the 18 were delivered new to Singapore. All three now reside in NZ along with some 964 variants. One of th three was a cab. All ruf vin. I almost bought the car above when it was green and newly imported to NZ with 8000 km. The other ruf btr 993 also suffered a similar fate to this but was rebuilt over 5 years by a panel shop specialising in Porsche that bought it as a wreak form the insurance company. I think there are at least 2 in Australia. Also a few in the UK. Thats probably all the RHD Ruf vin cars ever made....

Problem down here with thatcar is getting RUF specific components.

I thik this is simply a cursed car!

Cheers

The rear bumper appears to be cracked on both corners.

It also appears that there is a significant panel gap between the rear bumper and the panel above it containing the RUF badge.

It doesn't look like there is any paint damage on the rear bumper and quater panels. If the bumper has been cracked, would the lack of paint damage suggest that it was damaged by force being applied from the exhausts or engine compartment?

Just a thought.

I wouldn't be in a big hurry to assume the engine and transaxle were compromised -- the rear bumper looks like the car went over a curb or something roadside, taking out the front right, then swept under the car and took out the rear bumper cover. I think if you visualize a typical "whoops" off, that's not so severe as to come to an abrupt stop (and deploy the airbags) then this car is quite likely capable of coming back to a _documented_ 100% condition, but it will always have the truth of this incident, so it will never be a 100% market value car. And for a Ruf, I'd say that's a 20-40% demerit, not the typical 10-20% of say losing a Carrera and getting it professionally rebuilt.

This is not a car I'd ever take on, but I'd encourage the owner to contact a Ruf center and have them decide what's real and what's imagined. If a Ruf center took this car and put it back together and said "we stand behind this car with our brand" then I'd say it's worth 80-90% of a "no stories" car. But if "joe's frame-a-line" sticks it back together, I'd say it's worth about 10% less than a clean "donor" Carrera.

I'd still like to hold out hope that this car will make its way to a proper shop for a full recovery and it will end up being a helluva bargain for an enthusiast who loves Porsches and knows what Ruf means in the 993. Here's hoping.

I wish this thing was in the states, I would go for it now doubt in my mind.
But since it is RHD, Out of country, I dont want to have problems of transportation and then registration.
