Here's an interesting story about 100+ mph speeding tickets

http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayof...ket/index.html

This is one case where I'm glad I live in CA. $500 and 2 points in CA vs. $2,500 and jail in VA. I only know one guy who got caught "testing" his Lambo in the desert late at night. Tagged by a motorcycle CHP of all things at 120+ and as a result he spent 6 mos. taking the bus everywhere. Could have been a lot worse somewhere else.

Yup..Timed by a "Bear in the Air" out in the middle of Kansas years ago. A State Trooper was standing out in the middle of the highway, motioning for me to pull over. Kindly wrote it up for 92 in a 75 as I recall.

I received a 105+ mph ticket from a very nice FHP officer some 2 years ago.
I was showing my friend how my 550hp supercharged E46 M3 accelerates on the I-95. I did this on a Saturday night when there was no traffic on the highway at all.
There was a motorcycle entering the highway in front of me and as soon as there was room to go (safely), i passed the bike and hit the pedal to the metal.
I never knew a unmarked FHP car was following us, until he lit me up at the next exit.
First question he asked me was if I was racing the bike. I replied hell no and added that I only race at the track. (it was true because I was not racing the bike, I don't even know where the bike went after I passed it).
He also asked me how fast I was going, I said I didn't look at the speedo. He then wrote me a ticket for 105+ mph in a 55 zone (it was a road work zone but no workers present since it was late Saturday night).
telling me he did not have a radar but he was pace clocking me and while he travelled at 100mph, he couldn't reach me so I must've been going faster than that.
Thank god he did not have a radar as I think I hit 170+mph before I shut down.

I paid ticket clinic $90 and ended up paying $330 in fines and court fees and 4hours traffic school. No points on my account.

Lesson learned= Don't do 100+ mph anywhere else then on Autobahn or at the track. It could've ended up a lot uglier...

YOU should be glad you live in CA. (nice car btw, i just got a 993 arena red). I got a 110 in a 55 in VA which forced the sale of my previous 996TT about 8 months ago. Yes it was stupid. I paid a very expensive lawyer to try to keep me out of jail. Too bad everything was against me, young in an expensive car, during the day and the cop lied and said I was weaving which I wasnt.

3 days in Jail, 87 days suspended
6 months no driving in VA (thank god I live in MD)
$500 fine, 2k suspended - 115 reinstatement fee, 60 court costs..
4 days weekend comunity service - dificlut to get there when you cant drive in VA
1 year of probation

This is with a spotless record, 5 letters of recomendation, sale of the car, letter of apology, 2 driving schools etc.. In Northern Va the typical sentence is 1-2 days in jail for every mph over 90.

Ended up costing me thousands but I would have paid much more to stay out of jail.

I didn't think anything could be worse than hard time.....guess I was wrong.

cohare-you have my sympathy, I didn't know VA was a communist country.

20 years ago. Funny thing is that the CHP who pulled me over never paced me over 100. I had been a couple of miles earlier when another CHP was on the opposite side and radioed ahead. Slowed down to probably 80, and then I got nabbed. Oh well, what are you going to do?

Something like $150 fine and 2 points back then. A lot worse now.

Many years ago I was arrested and held for bail for going 98 in a 50. My dad had to bail me out since I was 17 at the time.

Aprox 120mph in my E36 M3 on the freeway at about 3:00 on a Thursday morning. There was a cop hideing down in the ditch next to the highway when I saw his lights I put the pedal to the floor got up to about 140 before the next exit about 1/2 mile away. When I got there wouldn't you know it there was a line of cars behind a construction worker with a stop sign. I was / played stupid and the cop let me go with a 90 in a 65 and I didn't even have to spend the rest of my evening in jail. If I remember it was about $500 in fines and 4 points

137 in a 55 on a freeway in a 911 and a LONG LONG time ago.

Still,...they do cart you off to the slammer here in Orygun for going fast, even if sober (which I certainly was). The food and the company are both items that I would not serve at home.

yes, several. and the cost i paid makes the price of every one of my car look as cheap as free.
i learned. there is point arguing. DMV is about as active as the wall. wasting time talking to cops or DMV. i dont drive without cruise control now (and even then i got ticketed, 30 in 25mph zone, my CC will not set 25mph). i dont drive the porsche on street either, except to/from track. i just drive on track now.

Spent the period between my Senior (college) finals and graduation in Vegas (I was in school in S. CA) back in '84. Got bored of the Strip, so headed out to an empty I-15 about 1 am in my 70 Mach 1 Mustang with 3 other "future grads". Took it up to 130 for a few miles. When I saw headlights behind me, I slowed it back down and ultimately pulled off to head back to the Strip. Turns out the lights were Nevada Trooper - he pulled me over as I turned towards town. Wrote me up for 98 in a 55 (everywhere was 55 back then) because that was what he was able to lock me in at. California wasn't using radar back then, so I hadn't even considered that type of detection.

Fine was $150. Being a poor student, I "missed" the payment date. Only problem was that I had to drive across Nevada on I80 to get to grad school 3 months later. Nothing like cruising at 55 across the whole state in a bright orange Mustang knowing there was an outstanding warrant with your name on it!

ABout a year later I cashed in a childhood life insurance policy and paid off the ticket/warrant. Total fine went up to $250 for not paying on time. Not too bad of a deal. Definitely a "do as I say, not as I did" example for my son.

I got pulled over for going 95 in a 55 in my dads Porsche back in College. The first thing the officer said to me was, "Can I see your pilots license?" Well, I had just gotten my private pilots license, and was very tempted to pull it out. Thankfully I exercised a bit of discretion and resisted, because he ended up letting me off with a warning!
