Default Switching out a Becker CDR210 to 220 question

Can I use the existing "cage" that held my 210 or do I need to get a new cage and install first?

Cage being the frame that is mounted inside the hole that the unit is held in place by...I.E. the thing that you use the keys to release the radio from.

Search police-read 2 hours of posts with no info about my specific question.

Cr or cdr 210's need the cage, cr or cdr 220's do not need the cage. Take it out, the cdr-220 will fit into the dash on it's own. Good luck.

Search for user "Mark Wilson" threads... he has a good writeup on it. Watch your dash for scratching...

Interesting. So if you have either 210 (cr or cdr) you remove the cage and either 220 just "wedges" in without a cage or keys to remove it?

Am I understanding you correctly?

So once the 220 is in "cageless" how do you get it back out? Push from behind or something?

Yes, you understood correctly. You pull the cageless CDR220 with the same keys.

Yea, pull the cage, but BE CAREFUL, it's SHARP! You will slice into your fingers!

Does your CDR-210 still work?

I may be interested if so.

Thanks,

Paul.

Paul,

It works fine except an occasion skip from bumps or RR tracks. I'm considering going down the iPod route via a 220. No clue what a CDR210 is worth.

Mark:

My 993 hasn't arrived yet, but the PPI indicated that it does not have its original radio, yet the current one is inop. I'd like to take it back to stock. I'll shoot you a PM when the car is here and maybe we can do a deal?

Thanks,

Paul.
